Job description
The Junior BI Analyst helps our advisory team turn messy datasets into professional information assets. At Olive Tree Consulting, we believe that data should make work easier to hold, not more complicated. You will be responsible for organizing the data that flows from our client engagements, ensuring that our recommendations are supported by accurate figures and consistent records. This is a fully remote position that requires a high degree of organization and a natural curiosity for how numbers reflect real-world business operations. You will work closely with our advisors to produce the artifacts that help client leadership move away from relying on memory and toward relying on a quiet, written system of truth.
What you will do
- Gather and clean data from various sources provided by our partners in the maritime sector.
- Build and maintain simple dashboards that track project health, decision logs, and priority status.
- Check datasets for inconsistencies or errors that might lead to confusion during management meetings.
- Draft clear, written summaries of data findings to accompany visual charts and graphs.
- Assist in the creation of periodic reports that help our team identify where client priorities are stalling.
- Update internal record-keeping systems to ensure that our advisory history remains accurate and accessible.
- Collaborate with other consultants to refine the way we present findings to executive leadership.
- Identify opportunities to simplify our data collection methods to reduce friction for our clients., This is a permanent, full-time position with a structure designed for long-term growth. We provide a fully remote work environment where your performance is measured by the quality and clarity of your work rather than the hours you spend at a desk. The pay for this role is competitive for the market and reflects the importance we place on high-quality data analysis. You will have the chance to work on complex problems alongside a supportive team that values practical results and straightforward communication. We focus on providing a quiet, focused environment where you can do your best work without the distraction of unnecessary meetings or corporate theatre.
Requirements
- A logical mindset with an ability to see the story behind the numbers.
- High attention to detail: you notice when a row of data is out of place or an axis is mislabeled.
- Strong written communication skills, with a preference for plain English over complex jargon.
- A calm approach to problem-solving when faced with messy or incomplete information.
- The ability to work independently and manage your own schedule in a remote environment.
- A commitment to accuracy and the understanding that small errors can lead to large misunderstandings.
- An interest in organizational management and how businesses actually function day-to-day.
Helpful background
- A degree or recent coursework in business, data science, statistics, or a related field.
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel, including the ability to manage tables and basic formulas.
- Exposure to business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar software through projects or studies.
- Basic understanding of SQL or a willingness to learn how to query databases.
- Experience with remote work tools and a comfortable digital workflow.
- Previous internships or part-time roles where you had to organize information for others to review.
