Are you a people-oriented leader with a passion for backend development? We are looking for a Team Lead Development (Backend) who can help build strong, future-proof teams with a focus on both people and technology. In this role, you will lead backend developers and be responsible for their growth, performance, and wellbeing.
You will work closely with the News Area Manager and the Team Lead Development for Mobile, Web & QA. Together, you will help shape a strong technical organization where collaboration, quality, and continuous improvement are at the core.
What will you do?
As Team Lead Development (Backend), you will be responsible for the people side of the backend domain while also contributing actively to technical discussions and decision-making on both a tactical and strategic level. You will:
- Coach and support backend developers in their professional and personal development;
- Conduct development and performance conversations and support career planning;
- Ensure the long-term employability and growth of your team, both individually and collectively;
- Collaborate with the Area Manager and the other Team Lead Development to maintain a strong and balanced team structure;
- Contribute actively to technical discussions and decision-making on topics such as architecture, scalability, and technical direction;
- Take the lead in recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding of backend developers (both permanent and freelance);
- Identify and address performance and team dynamics challenges;
- Encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration across teams (backend, mobile, and web);
- Contribute to a culture of ownership, feedback, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Have experience in a leadership or coaching role within software development;
- Bring a senior backend profile with extensive experience in areas such as architecture, APIs, data, and scalability;
- Feel comfortable working in an Agile environment;
- Combine people-focused leadership with a results-driven mindset;
- Are skilled at guiding professionals and having meaningful conversations;
- See it as your mission to help developers grow and elevate teams to the next level;
- Want to make an impact at the News Area level and actively contribute to both technical and organizational direction;
- Know how to help teams grow while maintaining autonomy.
- Experience in Java/Kotlin.
