We are looking for an experienced and ambitious digital leader to lead our Digital and Technology Operations function. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, you will be responsible for the operational delivery of digital services across the Trust, including infrastructure, cyber security, clinical and corporate systems, telephony, service desk and digital training services.
You will lead high-performing teams, manage strategic supplier relationships, oversee significant budgets and ensure our systems remain secure, resilient and reliable. You will also play a key role in delivering the Trust's Digital Strategy, driving continuous improvement and supporting major digital transformation programmes.

If you want to shape the future of digital services in an organisation committed to delivering great care and achieving great outcomes, we'd love to hear from you., The Head of Digital and Technology Operations is responsible for the leadership and delivery of all operational digital services across Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT).
This is a senior managerial role that ensures reliable, secure, and high-quality digital infrastructure and systems are in place to support clinical care and corporate functions throughout the Trust. The post holder will oversee outsourced IT infrastructure contracts and partnerships, manage internal digital support teams (covering clinical systems, corporate systems, service desk and training), and act as the operational lead for cybersecurity, supporting the Trust's SIRO. They will also ensure effective provision of telephony and unified communications services.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy within the Trust's strategic framework, the Head of Digital and Technology Operations will drive continuous improvement in digital service delivery and contribute to the Trust's digital strategy implementation, deputising for the CIO locally, regionally and nationally as required., * Lead the delivery of all digital and technology operations across the Trust, ensuring services are reliable, secure and support high-quality patient care.
- Provide leadership for digital infrastructure, networks, end-user computing, telephony and unified communications services.
- Manage and hold suppliers and outsourced service providers accountable for performance against contracts, service level agreements and key performance indicators.
- Ensure the effective operation, support and development of clinical systems, including the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) and other critical clinical applications.
- Oversee corporate systems such as finance, HR and business applications, ensuring they meet organisational needs and support efficient operations.
- Act as the Trust's senior operational lead for cyber security and information risk management, supporting the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO).
- Lead digital resilience, business continuity and disaster recovery planning to protect critical systems and services.
- Manage multidisciplinary digital teams, including service desk, systems support, infrastructure, telephony and digital training functions.
- Lead the development of digital skills, training programmes and workforce capability across the organisation.
- Manage significant digital revenue and capital budgets, assets and technology investments, ensuring value for money.
- Drive continuous improvement, innovation and service transformation, translating the Digital Strategy into operational delivery plans.
- Provide expert advice and assurance to the Executive Team, Board and governance committees on digital performance, risks and opportunities.
- Build strong relationships with clinicians, operational leaders, NHS partners, suppliers and regional and national digital organisations.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, NHS standards, cyber security requirements, information governance and clinical safety standards.
- Deputise for the Chief Information Officer at Trust, regional and national meetings as required.
Requirements
- Educated to postgraduate degree level (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field
- Professional qualifications or certifications in IT service management, project management, or related (e.g. ITIL certification; PRINCE2 / Agile project management)
- Evidence of continuing professional development in digital leadership, cybersecurity, or related areas
- Formal training or qualification in cybersecurity/information governance (e.g. CISSP, CISM)
Desirable criteria
- Master's degree in information technology, healthcare informatics, business administration (with IT focus), or related field
- Chartered status or full membership of relevant professional body (e.g. British Computer Society, FED-IP), * Significant senior experience managing digital/IT operations and service delivery in a large, complex organisation (preferably NHS or healthcare) - including responsibility for infrastructure, service desk, application support, and/or communications.
- Successful track record of leading teams
- Experience of implementing and supporting critical clinical and corporate systems
