Job description
The Software Test Engineer integrates hardware and software for new and existing systems, focusing on in-flight entertainment (IFE) solutions. This role plans and executes integration and system tests, documents results, and supports engineering teams to ensure that software and hardware meet functional and system requirements in a Linux-based lab environment.
Responsibilities
- Integrate hardware and software for new and existing systems, functions, and line-replaceable units (LRUs) developed by engineering and software development teams.
- Perform integration testing of LRU and system functionality to verify correct operation and interoperability.
- Ensure all testing activities are thoroughly documented, archived, and submitted according to established processes.
- Configure, integrate, and maintain test rack setups to support system installation and testing activities.
- Conduct software and system testing of all in-flight entertainment (IFE) functionality for existing systems.
- Participate in the design and development of IFE system functionality by providing test feedback and integration insight.
- Support testing and regression testing of software phase releases to validate fixes and prevent defects from reoccurring.
- Assist and support engineering teams across the organization with test, integration, and troubleshooting efforts as required.
- Contribute to the development of test plans and test procedures to validate system requirements and ensure traceability.
- Apply professional concepts and company policies to resolve routine issues encountered during testing and integration.
- Analyze situations or data using existing practices and procedures to identify issues and propose solutions.
- Communicate test results, issues, and recommendations clearly in written reports and verbal updates., The role is based onsite in a laboratory environment in Irvine, CA. You will work hands-on with hardware, test racks, and integrated systems in a controlled lab setting, using Linux and Unix-based systems along with standard office productivity tools. The position involves close collaboration with engineering and software development teams in a technical, project-driven environment.
Requirements
- Ability to work effectively in a Linux environment.
- Technical background in development and test, with exposure to software and hardware integration.
- Familiarity with Unix and Linux operating systems.
- Basic understanding of Linux system administration capabilities and command-line usage.
- Ability to plan engineering activities and organize tasks to meet project objectives.
- Capability to learn and use professional concepts while applying company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.
- Skill in applying existing practices and procedures to analyze situations or data.
- Strong writing skills for documenting tests, procedures, and results.
- Effective verbal communication skills in English, both in person and over the phone.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including tools for documentation and reporting.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 1-3 years of experience in software or system engineering development and/or software/hardware testing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in the in-flight entertainment (IFE) or avionics industry is preferred.
- Experience participating in regression testing of software releases.
- Experience working with test racks or lab-based integration environments.
- Exposure to integration of LRUs and complex systems.
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and support company-wide engineering efforts.

This is a Contract position based out of Irvine, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
