Job description

Provides advanced level technical support for complex projects. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves hardware or software issues that span multiple technology domains, as elevated from the team. Develops technical standards and documentation.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Designs, implements, and deploys services and features to support the Supergraph platform and meet business needs across Vanguard subdivisions. Identifies and implements opportunities for security remediation, resiliency hardening, and performance optimization. Quickly orients in unfamiliar repos and delivers changes with confidence.

  2. Provides advanced technical support for Supergraph production services running on AWS ECS. Troubleshoots issues across Java/Spring Boot and TypeScript/Node.js services in a federated GraphQL architecture. Traces issues from gateway through affected subgraph services, implements fixes, and proves the fix through testing.

  3. Contributes to technical standards and platform reliability practices. Tests and evaluates security patches and dependency updates. Validates performance through load testing (Locust, Fast4J) to optimize system performance and maximize uptime. Communicates risk and impact clearly to the team.

  4. Elevates code through development, test, and production environments on schedule as part of a "you build it, you run it" culture. Provides follow-up production support and participates in on-call rotation. Submits change control requests and maintains deployment documentation.

  5. Understands client business needs and how Supergraph enables them. Partners with subgraph provider teams across subdivisions (PI Tech, Workplace, Advice) to understand integration requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

  6. Mentors junior staff on platform patterns, debugging techniques, and "you build it, you run it" practices. Troubleshoots and resolves complex issues escalated from staff. Pairs with less experienced developers on federation concepts. Updates, writes, and maintains technical documentation for the platform.

  7. Participates in system design and analysis activities. Writes technical documentation for assigned deliverables. Performs requirements analysis for security remediation and resiliency initiatives. Self-directed in picking up work, tracing it to affected services, and delivering solutions.

  8. Embraces AI-assisted development practices (Claude Code) and stays current on GraphQL federation and cloud-native patterns. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years related work experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
