Job description

We are building a custom ERP system in house, using Blazor Server and .NET with a SQL Server backend, to run our warehouse and shop floor operations. It tracks inventory, manages transfers between locations, and handles receiving, with permissions managed through Microsoft Entra ID. The system is currently in development, and we are continuing to build it out as we digitize more of the operation.

The Companion Android App:

Alongside the web app, we have been building an Android app that will run on company owned rugged handheld scanners on the shop floor, so staff can scan barcodes and manage inventory without walking back to a computer. The current app has been proof of concept. It has shown the workflow works, but it was not built with long term maintainability in mind, and we are not looking to keep building on top of it as is. We are starting fresh with a properly built version.

To support this, we have exposed a set of API endpoints from the ERP system, including:

  • Looking up battery cores and pallets by serial number (barcode scanning)
  • Creating and managing inventory transfers between locations
  • Logging and posting receiving events
  • Managing warehouse locations and sublocations (bins), We are looking for an Android developer to design and build a new version of this app from the ground up, and to maintain and grow it over time. You will work closely with our existing development team, building against API endpoints we expose from the ERP system as new features are rolled out., * Design and build a new Android application to replace the current proof of concept
  • Implement barcode scanning workflows for rugged handheld scanner hardware
  • Integrate with REST API endpoints exposed by the ERP system, including inventory lookups, transfers, receiving, and location management
  • Implement authentication against Microsoft Entra ID
  • Coordinate with the backend team as new API endpoints are added
  • Maintain and iterate on the app as features are rolled out over time

Requirements

  • Proven experience building and shipping Android applications (Kotlin or Java)
  • Experience integrating REST APIs and working with token-based authentication
  • Experience with barcode scanning or rugged and industrial handheld device deployments (for example Zebra or Honeywell devices) is a plus
  • Comfortable working independently with limited day-to-day oversight
  • Writes clean, well-structured code intended for long term use, not a quick prototype
