Job description

Guidehouse has an exciting opportunity in our Defense and Security Segment to support cybersecurity engineering activities efforts at the Department of War (DoW). The Cybersecurity Operations Engineer will implement and sustain Zero Trust Architecture across cloud and application environments to ensure secure and resilient system operations. The individual will embed DevSecOps security controls throughout the development lifecycle, designs cybersecurity architectures supporting continuity objectives, and provide technical support for backup, disaster recovery, and COOP capabilities, including participation in bi-annual exercises and remediation activities.

  • Serve as a technical escalation point (Tier 3) for complex cybersecurity operations and engineering issues, driving root-cause resolution and long-term fixes
  • Translate architectural and security design decisions into operationally supportable implementations, ensuring controls are durable and maintainable
  • Lead technical coordination across security, cloud, application, and operations teams to ensure engineered solutions integrate cleanly into day-to-day operations
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of implemented security controls and recommend engineering enhancements to address emerging threats or operational gaps
  • Develop and maintain engineering-level artifacts (e.g., solution designs, configuration standards, and implementation guidance) to support consistency and auditability
  • Partner with program leadership and government stakeholders to communicate technical risk, tradeoffs, and remediation strategies in a clear, decision-oriented manner
  • Support continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned from incidents, exercises, and operational performance into engineering updates and control refinements

Requirements

  • An ACTIVE and MAINTAINED "TOP SECRET" Federal or DoD security clearance
  • Minimum of SIX (6) years experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Prior experience supporting federal or defense cybersecurity environments, including systems aligned to the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidance

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) or an equivalent cloud security certification
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) or Information Systems Security Architecture Professional (ISSAP) / Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP)
  • DevSecOps or Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) certification demonstrating experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) security
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation (or newer ITIL equivalent) to support resilient, operations-focused engineering
