Job description

This position is primarily focused on the day-to-day support, administration, optimization, and troubleshooting of a large enterprise Cisco-based network environment. Approximately 80-90% of the role will be dedicated to operational support, maintenance, and implementation activities, with 10-20% focused on project participation and network enhancements.

The ideal candidate will possess strong experience supporting Cisco networking technologies and be comfortable working across routing, switching, wireless, firewall, SD-WAN, and network security environments.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Network Operations & Support

  • Provide day-to-day administration, support, monitoring, and troubleshooting of a multi-site global enterprise network environment.

  • Support WAN, LAN, VLAN, SD-WAN, wireless, internet connectivity, and remote access services.

  • Diagnose and resolve network-related incidents utilizing established operational procedures and best practices.

  • Monitor network health, availability, capacity, and performance using enterprise monitoring tools.

  • Participate in production support activities, root cause analysis, issue resolution, and documentation efforts.

  • Manage and maintain network infrastructure across corporate offices, manufacturing facilities, and remote locations.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, server, cloud, and application teams to resolve cross-functional issues.

Cisco Infrastructure Support

  • Federal Signal operates as an all-Cisco networking environment. Candidates should have experience supporting and troubleshooting Cisco-based networking infrastructure including:

  • Cisco routing and switching technologies.

  • Cisco Catalyst switching platforms.

  • Cisco wireless environments utilizing Cisco 9800 Wireless LAN Controllers.

  • Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN (formerly Viptela).

  • Cisco firewall technologies including Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD).

  • Integrated security services within Cisco SD-WAN environments.

  • Cisco network management and monitoring solutions.

Network Security

  • Support and maintain network security controls and technologies.

  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues involving firewalls, VPNs, security policies, and segmentation.

  • Assist with the implementation and support of network access control and Zero Trust initiatives.

  • Maintain understanding of firewall concepts including: Access control policies, NAT, VPN technologies, Security zones, Threat prevention capabilities

  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to support compliance and security improvement initiatives.

Project Participation

  • Participate in infrastructure modernization initiatives and technology refresh projects.

  • Assist with network implementations, upgrades, migrations, and deployment activities.

  • Contribute operational expertise to architecture and design discussions when required.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and network diagrams.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Downers Grove, IL. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
