Job description

National Capitol Contracting is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join our team in support of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The USPTO fosters innovation and economic growth by administering the nation's patent and trademark systems. The Security Specialist supports the security, governance, compliance, and operational integrity of the agency's Microsoft 365 collaboration environment. This position performs security assessments, supports implementation of security controls, monitors collaboration services for risk, and works with engineering and operations teams to maintain secure and resilient Microsoft 365 collaboration services.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Support implementation and administration of Microsoft 365 security, governance, and compliance requirements for collaboration services.
  • Monitor Microsoft 365 collaboration environments for security risks, vulnerabilities, configuration issues, and policy compliance.
  • Support identity, authentication, authorization, permissions management, and access control activities across Microsoft 365 collaboration platforms.
  • Assist with security investigations, incident response activities, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and security documentation.
  • Coordinate with engineering, infrastructure, and cybersecurity personnel to implement secure collaboration solutions.
  • Support security assessments, compliance reviews, vulnerability remediation efforts, and operational risk mitigation activities.
  • Review proposed platform changes and engineering solutions to ensure compliance with agency security and governance requirements.
  • Develop security procedures, operational documentation, technical recommendations, and security reporting supporting collaboration services.
  • Evaluate emerging Microsoft security capabilities, including Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Copilot security controls.
  • Promote security best practices supporting the confidentiality, integrity, availability, and resilience of Microsoft 365 collaboration services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 security, governance, and compliance initiatives.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 security administration.
  • Experience supporting identity and access management, permissions administration, and security investigations.
  • Experience developing security documentation, operational procedures, and compliance recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and risk assessment skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CompTIA Security+.
  • Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert or Security Administrator Associate.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 security within a Federal Government environment.

Benefits & conditions

$110,000.00 - $135,000.00
