Job description

Under the direction of the DeKalb-Sycamore Area Transportation Study (DSATS) Director and the DeKalb County Engineer, the GIS Technician assists in all aspects of digital mapping, travel demand modeling, data management and a variety of other applications. Manage all aspects including creation, management and testing of various GIS applications. Provide technical advice, training and other user support to ensure efficient use of GIS systems. Maintain and troubleshoot issues with software, programs, maps and equipment. Performs other duties as required or assigned., * Handle confidential information and materials with a high level of technical independence

  • Ongoing knowledge of new developments in hardware and software
  • Ongoing knowledge of new mapping and GIS techniques that may have an impact in the GIS system abilities
  • Analyze GIS data to display results of analyses, using maps, graphs, or tabular data

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent certificate with experience, in GIS, geography or related field
  • Requires at least one year of experience in database management, GIS, systems design or programming, or equivalent experience

Requirements

  • Requires possession of a valid Illinois Driver's License
  • Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; walking and standing in the field are required occasionally
  • Requires the ability to use various office equipment, instruments, and devices
  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, professional people, public officials, and the general public
  • Ability in interpreting S. census data, land descriptions, maps, drawings, charts, plat books, survey records and aerial photography
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively, explaining projects and concepts to co-workers, professional people, public officials, and the general public in layman's terms
  • Requires knowledge of geography as applied to concepts and principles of GIS, map projections and data, coordinate systems and designs using ESRI GIS Products including ArcGIS
  • Maintain compliance with all County policies and procedures
  • Participate if required in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in GIS technology, equipment or systems
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned
