Job description
Are you an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, thinking strategically, and seeing your designs come to life? We're looking for a high-level Design Engineer to join our Commercial & Industrial solar team and help develop innovative solar projects from concept through construction.
In this role, you'll play a key part in the early stages of project development, creating civil and structural designs for commercial solar installations while working closely with project managers, field teams, and company leadership. You'll have the opportunity to influence project strategy, improve design processes, and help build the renewable energy infrastructure of tomorrow.
This is more than a design position-we're looking for someone who enjoys collaborating, sharing ideas, and helping move projects forward. You'll evaluate project feasibility, optimize designs for constructability and efficiency, ensure compliance with applicable codes and permitting requirements, and stay current on new technologies that can improve the way we work, including AI-powered engineering tools. If you enjoy mentoring others and bringing creative solutions to the table, you'll fit right in.
Requirements
We're looking for someone with 5-10 years of solar design and engineering experience and a strong understanding of commercial solar systems, engineering principles, and project development. You should be comfortable working with AutoCAD, Helioscope, Aurora, Microsoft Office, and other industry-standard design software. Experience with civil engineering, structural design, orthomosaic software, and drone mapping is a plus, as is the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly with both internal teams and customers.
To be successful in this role, you'll need strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and the ability to balance technical detail with the bigger picture. You should have experience working with building codes, the National Electrical Code (NEC), permitting requirements, and industry safety standards while keeping projects moving efficiently.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Mechanical emphasis preferred).
- 5-10 years of commercial solar design and engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license with the ability to provide electrical stamping (required).
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record and proof of insurance.
- FAA Part 107 Drone License, or the ability to obtain it within your first 90 days.
- NABCEP Design Specialist (or similar certification) is a plus.
This position is based in our Milwaukee office and includes occasional travel to project sites. You'll spend most of your time collaborating with our engineering and project teams, with periodic field visits to better understand site conditions and support project execution.
If you're excited about renewable energy, enjoy solving engineering challenges, and want to be part of a growing team that's making a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
