Job description
Kopius is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our team supporting a leading healthcare services organization. This role focuses on building and maintaining data pipelines and platforms on Azure that support an application rewrite and feed the team's new AI initiatives, with strong attention to quality, security, and governance of sensitive data. This is a senior, hands-on engineering role for someone with deep experience across the Azure data stack, comfortable designing scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, modeling data for both analytics and AI workloads, and partnering closely with full-stack and AI engineers to bring intelligent capabilities to production. The ideal candidate operates independently, brings strong engineering judgment, and contributes proactively to the team's broader data and AI direction., * Design, build, and maintain ETL / ELT pipelines on the Azure data stack
- Develop and orchestrate data workflows in Azure Data Factory and Databricks
- Model, structure, and optimize data in Synapse and Azure Data Lake
- Ensure data quality, security, and governance for sensitive membership and contract data in a healthcare environment
- Prepare data for AI/ML workloads - including feature and embedding pipelines
- Collaborate closely with full-stack and AI engineers to bring intelligent capabilities to production
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and architectural discussions
- Champion engineering best practices and data governance standards across the team

Technical Requirements
- Senior-level Azure data engineering experience across Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Lake (ADLS Gen2)
- Strong SQL and Python (Spark) skills
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing ETL / ELT pipelines and data models
- Experience with streaming / ingestion technologies (Event Hubs, Kafka, or similar)
- Proficiency with Git and Azure DevOps workflows
- Understanding of data governance, security, and lineage practices in regulated environments
- Experience preparing data for AI/ML workloads - feature pipelines, embeddings, vector data
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Nice to have: Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric
- Nice to have: Familiarity with Power BI or other BI tooling
- Nice to have: Experience with dbt or modern data transformation frameworks
- Nice to have: Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industries
Things to keep in mind!
- Compensation: $12,500 - $15,800 / month (W2). Individual pay within the posted range is determined by multiple factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
- Contract duration: This is a W2 engagement with an initial 6-month term and strong likelihood of extension based on performance and project needs.
- Location: Hybrid schedule at our client's Dallas, TX office (Tuesday through Thursday onsite) is preferred. Remote candidates within the United States will also be considered.
