Job description

The Software Engineering team delivers next-generation application enhancements and new products for a changing world. Working at the cutting edge, we design and develop software for platforms, peripherals, applications and diagnostics - all with the most advanced technologies, tools, software engineering methodologies and the collaboration of internal and external partners., We are seeking a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across modern software delivery platforms, with a strong focus on DevOps CI/CD pipelines, end-to-end security scanning, and agentic AI systems. This role is both hands-on and strategic, influencing architecture, engineering standards, and long-term technical direction while mentoring senior engineers and partnering closely with product and security teams.

The ideal candidate combines deep systems expertise with a forward-looking mindset, driving automation, resilience, and secure-by-design practices while exploring how autonomous and agentic AI can enhance developer productivity and operational excellence.

What you'll achieve

As a Software Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for developing sophisticated systems and software based on the customer's business goals, needs and general business environment creating software solutions.

You will:

  • Contribute to the design and architecture of high-quality, complex systems and software/storage environments
  • Prepare, review and evaluate software/storage specifications for products and systems
  • Embed security scanning and controls throughout the SDLC, including SAST, DAST, SCA, secrets detection, and container/image scanning. Champion a DevSecOps model where security is automated, measurable, and continuously improved. Partner with security and compliance teams to meet regulatory and audit requirements without slowing delivery.
  • Design and prototype agentic AI systems that autonomously reason, plan, and act across engineering and operational workflows. Apply AI agents to incident response, pipeline optimization, vulnerability management, testing, and observability. Evaluate and integrate LLM-based tools, orchestration frameworks, and safeguards to ensure reliability, security, and responsible AI usage.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of test strategies for complex software products and systems/for storage products and systems

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or DevOps roles, with demonstrated technical leadership
  • Deep hands-on experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, Jenkins)
  • Strong expertise in containers (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Proven experience integrating security scanning and DevSecOps tooling into automated delivery pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence architecture and engineering practices at scale

  • Bachelor's degree or related experience

Benefits & conditions

Compensation: Dell is committed to Fair and Equitable compensation practices. The Base Salary Range for this role is $178,500 to $231,000.
