Job description

To establish and expand the K10plus-Zentral discovery index, we are seeking a dedicated IT specialist with in-depth knowledge of search and indexing technologies. Together with our partner, the GBV, you will operate and develop a highly available search and data platform based on Apache SolrCloud, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes, handling multi-terabyte-scale data. In addition to platform operations, the role also involves the further development of bibliographic indexing and data management processes based on MARC21 and SolrMarc.

We are looking for a candidate with strong technical understanding, a structured approach to work, and a passion for collaborating in cooperative, cross-institutional development and operations contexts-someone who will actively contribute their expertise to the sustainable expansion of the service.

You will work as part of a dedicated team and in close coordination with department leadership., * Coordinating the setup and administration of a bare-metal Kubernetes cluster

  • Coordinating the setup, operation, and further development of an Apache SolrCloud infrastructure
  • Further developing SolrMarc-based indexing and data processes
  • Developing and customizing Java-based components and indexing logic
  • Integrating and providing technical support for relational data storage in the context of bibliographic metadata
  • Optimizing performance, monitoring, and capacity
  • Development of backup, recovery, and operational processes

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in computer science or a comparable academic degree
  • Several years of experience operating Linux-based production environments
  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration
  • Knowledge of Apache Solr, Elasticsearch, or comparable technologies
  • Proficiency in Java and experience with build/deployment processes are preferred
  • Knowledge of bibliographic data formats, particularly MARC21, is an advantage
  • German language skills at least at the B2 level
