Job description
Project-S is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to build the mission services that power our orbital intelligence platform. This role will design APIs, job orchestration services, event stores, CDM generation workflows, alerting systems, and service integrations used by internal teams and customer-facing applications. Key Responsibilities Build backend APIs for conjunction events, event detail, CDM download, propagation jobs, health checks, and alert workflows. Design event-store schemas and query patterns for fast retrieval by time, object, risk level, and customer context. Implement job APIs such as /propagate, /status, and /results. Integrate queues, workers, databases, object storage, and monitoring systems into a reliable service architecture. Support authentication, authorization, rate limiting, audit logging, and API documentation. Work with frontend teams to deliver reliable endpoints for Heat Map, 3D Viewer, CAM Planner, and Safety Zone workflows. Participate in design reviews
Requirements
code reviews, testing, and incident response. Ideal Profile Strong backend development experience with Python/FastAPI, Node.js, Go, Java, or similar. Experience designing REST APIs, event-driven services, queues, relational databases, and cloud-native applications. Familiarity with OpenAPI, Postgres, Redis, SQS/Service Bus, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD. Experience with scientific, geospatial, aerospace, defense, or mission-critical software is a plus.
