Job description
As System Architect - Camera & Imaging Systems, you define and own the end-to-end architecture, performance, and technical coherence of advanced camera and imaging solutions.
You operate at the intersection of precision optics, image sensors, electronics, firmware, and image processing. In this role, you translate customer and application requirements into high-performance, manufacturable, and scalable imaging systems, while providing system-level technical leadership throughout the full product lifecycle - from concept and feasibility to industrialization and volume production.
Tasks & Responsibilities
System Architecture & Design
- Define end-to-end imaging system architectures covering optics, sensors, illumination, ISP, electronics, firmware, and software
- Translate customer, application, and market requirements into system-level specifications and performance budgets
- Drive architectural trade-offs across image quality, latency, power, cost, size, robustness, and manufacturability
- Define and maintain interfaces across optical, electrical, mechanical, and software domains
- Support platform-based designs enabling reuse and scalability across product families
Imaging Performance & Quality
- Own image quality metrics such as SNR, MTF, dynamic range, sensitivity, and noise
- Lead optics-sensor-ISP co-optimization in close collaboration with optical and algorithm teams
- Perform and guide system-level modeling, simulation, and performance analysis
- Support ISP definition and tuning (e.g. demosaicing, HDR, denoise, color processing)
- Define validation strategies and contribute to image quality characterization and verification
Cross-Functional & Customer Leadership
- Act as technical authority across optics, electronics, firmware, algorithms, and mechanics
- Align multidisciplinary teams around architectural decisions and system trade-offs
- Lead technical design reviews, risk assessments, and validation activities
- Interface with customers, suppliers, and technology partners
Product Lifecycle & Industrialization
- Support feasibility studies, concept selection, and early system definition
- Guide prototyping, system integration, and verification
- Ensure architectures align with manufacturing, calibration, and test strategies
- Support root-cause analysis during industrialization and field use
- Contribute to technology roadmaps and future imaging platforms
Requirements
You are a system-level thinker with a strong background in camera and imaging systems and the ability to balance complex technical trade-offs., * MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Imaging Science, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in camera, imaging, optical, or photonics-based systems
- Strong knowledge of image sensors, optics, ISP pipelines, and embedded imaging systems
- Experience with system architecture, requirements definition, and verification
- Familiarity with imaging standards and test methods (e.g. ISO, EMVA 1288)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead without formal authority
- A structured, analytical, and customer-oriented mindset
Experience in industrial, medical, automotive, scientific, or high-tech imaging applications is a strong plus. Knowledge of machine vision, low-light imaging, or manufacturing and calibration processes is an advantage.
Benefits & conditions
- A competitive salary depending on experience,
- 25 vacation days and 5 additional leave days (with the option to purchase up to 8 extra days),
- The opportunity to work at a highly innovative company where you learn something new every day,
- An extensive benefits package, including a generous pension plan
