Job description
Lead Backend Engineer / Developer (Python C++ GCP) London onsite to £150k
Are you a senior Backend Engineer who enjoys building platforms from the ground up? Do you thrive in start-up environments where you can own architecture, shape engineering culture and solve genuinely meaningful technical problems?
This is an opportunity to join an innovative technology start-up that has developed a world leading navigation platform designed to improve independence for people with visual impairments. Combining advanced GNSS positioning, computer vision and AI, the technology delivers centimetre-level accuracy in challenging urban environments, enabling users to navigate the world with confidence.
The core technology is proven. The next challenge is scaling it.
As Lead Backend Engineer, you'll take ownership of the company's cloud platform, defining the backend architecture that underpins a sophisticated ecosystem of mobile applications, computer vision systems and edge devices.
You'll lead the evolution from an existing Firebase implementation to a scalable, cloud-native platform on Google Cloud Platform, building resilient, low-latency services capable of processing high frequency location, sensor and image data from thousands of devices in real time.
Working alongside robotics, computer vision and AI researchers, you'll help transform cutting-edge research into robust production services, creating the APIs, infrastructure and engineering practices that enable the business to scale.
This is a genuine opportunity to influence technical direction, establish engineering standards and build the backend function from the ground up.
Requirements
- Yu have strong experience of building scalable backend platforms and distributed systems
- You have strong Python backend engineering skills with experience designing cloud-native architectures
- You have a deep knowledge of Google Cloud Platform, Docker and containerised deployments (Cloud Run preferred)
- You have experience of building highly resilient, low-latency systems where reliability and performance are critical
- You have a good knowledge of high-frequency data processing, event driven systems or IoT / edge device platforms
- You're comfortable working across architecture, implementation and technical leadership within a fast-moving start-up
- Experience with any of the following would be beneficial but not essential: C++, Computer Vision, Robotics or autonomous systems experience, GNSS, mapping or positioning technologies, Ceres Solver or optimisation algorithms, Swift / iOS integration experience
