Job description

As our agency continues to grow, we're looking for a friendly, proactive and enthusiastic WordPress Website Specialist to join our digital agency based in Basingstoke.

This is a varied role, and we're open to applications from candidates looking for either full-time or part-time hours.

You'll primarily report to our Creative Director while working closely with our web development, design and marketing teams to help deliver high-quality websites for clients across a wide range of industries.

The role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in WordPress, has a great eye for detail, and is happy getting involved with everything from content updates and website builds to technical improvements and ongoing maintenance.

What you'll be doing

No two days are the same, but your responsibilities will typically include:

  • Building and creating new pages within bespoke WordPress websites
  • Uploading, formatting and maintaining website content, including text, imagery and downloadable resources
  • Creating and configuring page layouts using our custom WordPress content blocks
  • Assisting with the build and launch of new client websites
  • Supporting our marketing team with website updates, landing pages and campaign changes
  • Updating website features, functionality and theme settings where required
  • Making HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP changes for enhancements and improvements
  • Performing routine WordPress maintenance, including plugin updates, theme updates and general website housekeeping
  • Helping to manage website hosting on platforms such as SiteGround - FTP/SFTP, staging sites, SSL certificates and basic troubleshooting
  • Managing DNS records, domains and email routing, and supporting website launches and migrations
  • Monitoring website performance and carrying out basic optimisation where appropriate
  • Editing, cropping and optimising images for use on the web
  • Testing websites across different browsers, devices and screen sizes
  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure projects are delivered to a consistently high standard

Requirements

We're looking for someone who is organised, motivated and enjoys producing great work. You don't need to know everything, but we'd love you to have experience with:

  • WordPress CMS
  • Creating and editing pages within WordPress
  • HTML & CSS
  • A good understanding of JavaScript
  • A basic to intermediate understanding of PHP
  • WordPress themes, plugins and general website best practices
  • Confidence with the hosting side of running websites - FTP/SFTP, SSL, DNS and domain management, and using a hosting control panel (secondary to WordPress, but a genuine part of the role)
  • Adobe Photoshop (or similar) for editing, cropping and optimising images
  • Responsive website layouts

Bonus skills (not essential)

Experience with any of the following would be an advantage:

  • Advanced Custom Fields (ACF)
  • SCSS/Sass
  • Git
  • jQuery, GSAP
  • Pre-processors, such as PrePros
  • Website performance optimisation
  • SEO and accessibility best practices
  • Familiarity with SiteGround (Site Tools) or similar managed WordPress hosting

About you

You'll enjoy variety, take pride in your work and be someone who likes helping others. We're looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys building and maintaining websites
  • Has a good eye for design, layout and presentation
  • Is organised and pays close attention to detail
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team
