The Lead Application R&D Engineer directly contributes to and drives the ideation, design, development, verification, documentation, component creation, and delivery of key applications and components supporting AAA business growth in the distributed automation, power generation and transmission fields. In this role he/she closely collaborates with and supports product management, COEs and customers to help define solutions and roadmaps that lead to customer success. As a subject matter expert, he/she actively contributes to and supervises major innovation activities within AAA, GA and with the Grid Solutions Innovation Lab.
This position will report to the Protection and Control System Engineering Leader and is responsible for value creation within the Advance Automation Applications (AAA) scope, contributing to all key stages of the NPI process and, where required, directly to customer projects.

L'Ingénieur Lead R&D Applications contribue directement et pilote l'idéation, la conception, le développement, la vérification, la documentation, la création de composants et la livraison d'applications et de composants clés soutenant la croissance commerciale AAA (Advanced Automation Applications) dans les domaines de l'automatisation distribuée, de la production et du transport d'énergie. Dans ce rôle, il/elle collabore étroitement avec le gestionnaire de produits, les Centres d'Excellence (COE) et les clients pour aider à définir les solutions et les feuilles de route menant au succès client. En tant qu'expert en la matière, il/elle contribue activement et supervise les activités d'innovation majeures au sein d'AAA, de GA et du laboratoire d'innovation Grid Solutions.
Ce poste est rattaché au Responsable de l'Ingénierie des Systèmes de Protection et de Contrôle et est responsable de la création de valeur dans le périmètre des Applications d'Automatisation Avancées (AAA), contribuant à toutes les étapes clés du processus NPI (Introduction de Nouveaux Produits) et, si nécessaire, directement aux projets clients., Technology development on power system control and management solutions for smart grid applications, including:
- Functional and system design and architecture specifications:
- System modelling using tools such as Matlab, Simulink, Opal-RT as a means to create and test applications. Algorithm development: design, develop and validate smart grid algorithms in both function block and conventional software implementations.
- Test environment design and set-up: support the V&V team to define the test and simulation environment scenarios for validation.
- Design GUI views that depict application interaction environments and to enable V&V testing and support AAA deliveries.
- Application function block development: to build ready to use AFB for embedded automation monitoring, analytics, forecasting, management, control and protection systems.
- Test and validation: to perform test and validation of the solution including related debugging.
- Depending on the context and needs, act as a project technical leader or scrum master.
- Technical support and development leadership of key-business developments for AAA roadmap. Autonomous proposal, development, and demonstration of novel techniques for increased differentiation from competition.
- Contribute to Grid Solutions Innovation Lab activities in support of AAA and wider GS roadmap advancement and strategic activities.
- Support business development and project pipeline build-up and delivery activities. This includes:
- System design specifications and model verification.
- Commissioning support to COE and operations teams.
- Propose improvement programs feeding into the team development roadmap.
- Working with customers to identify and solve power systems issues using our software solutions, while ensuring that any REX is used for feeding/prioritizing future developments.
- Participating in technical visits, workshops, demos, conferences, trade shows and delivery of customer/stakeholder training according to the specific case and opportunity.
Requirements
- Genuine interest and passion for solving complex power system problems.
- Degree in renewable energies, electrical engineering, computer science, or similar field from an accredited university.
- Strong industrial experience developing and delivering (includes FAT/SAT) power systems management, automation, protection and control applications involving application specification, design, development, testing, in at least Linux and Windows environments using Agile processes.
- Proven experience in R&D solutions related to technology development in power systems, automation, protection and control domains.
- Demonstrated track record of influencing various stakeholders through the R&D process in order to achieve desired outcomes for the customers.
- Pragmatic approach to problem-solving.

Knowledge & Experience:
- Software development tools including programming languages, code-checking, version control, Agile-oriented support tools (Jira, SVN, Git),
- Proficient in the use of Matlab, Simulink, Matlab Embedded Coding, Automated testing.
- Experience with 61131 PLC development systems (desired).
- Experience as a developer in Linux and MS Windows environments (desired).
- Experienced in SW release management and other aspects of SDLC.
