Job description

The DevOps Engineer is a key enabler of engineering excellence, responsible for designing, securing, and evolving the platforms, tools, and processes that underpin software delivery across the business. With end-to-end ownership of the engineering technology landscape, this role drives innovation, automation, and continuous improvement, ensuring teams have the capabilities they need to build, deploy, and operate world-class solutions. Working at the intersection of Engineering, IT, Security, and business stakeholders, the DevOps Engineer influences technology strategy, delivers transformative tooling and platform capabilities, and creates a secure, scalable, and high-performing engineering environment that supports the organisation's growth and future ambitions.

What will I be delivering: Engineering Systems Ownership

  • Own and manage all engineering software platforms and tools (e.g. CAD/EDA tools, simulation software, CI/CD pipelines, version control, requirements management, build systems, test and deployment tooling).
  • Act as the technical authority for engineering systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability.
  • Manage system lifecycles including evaluation, deployment, upgrades, support, and decommissioning.

Solution Scoping & Architecture

  • Work with Engineering, Product, and IT stakeholders to understand requirements and pain points.
  • Scope, assess, and recommend appropriate tools and solutions, balancing capability, cost, security, and compliance.
  • Design and maintain DevOps and engineering system architectures, including on-premise, hybrid, and cloud solutions where appropriate.
  • Ensure tooling aligns with business growth, engineering roadmaps, and operational resilience requirements.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure all engineering systems are secure by design, aligned with organisational cyber security policies and frameworks (e.g. Cyber Essentials Plus, NIST, DCC/CMMC where applicable).
  • Implement and maintain access control, identity management, logging, monitoring, and auditability across engineering platforms.
  • Work closely with IT Security to assess and mitigate risks, including supplier and third-party tools.
  • Support audits, assessments, and customer assurance activities related to engineering systems.

Administration & Operations

  • Perform or oversee day-to-day administration of engineering and DevOps platforms.
  • Automate system provisioning, configuration, and maintenance where possible.
  • Monitor system health, capacity, and usage; proactively address issues and bottlenecks.
  • Define and maintain documentation, standards, and operating procedures.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Act as a bridge between Engineering and IT, ensuring shared ownership and clear accountability.
  • Support engineering teams in adopting best practices for DevOps, CI/CD, automation, and tool usage.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to engineering users as required.

Requirements

  • Strong experience managing DevOps and engineering software environments.
  • Proven ability to scope, select, and implement technical solutions in a complex organisation.
  • Solid understanding of security principles, access control, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with version control, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and infrastructure-as-code concepts.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a regulated or security-sensitive environment.

Benefits & conditions

  • 25 days holidays + bank holidays and holiday purchase scheme.
  • Annual profit share bonus.
  • Cycle to work, Home & Tech and car salary sacrifice schemes.
  • Death in service benefit & income protection.
  • Employee assistance programme and virtual GP.
  • Employee referral scheme.
  • Enhanced parental leave.
  • Generous company pension scheme with up to 10% employer contribution.
  • One paid volunteering day per year.
  • Private Health Insurance through Bupa.
  • YuLife wellbeing app.
