Job description

Role summary: The (USA) Principal, Software Engineer leads the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving technical excellence across multiple teams. This role oversees the full software development lifecycle, applying cloud-native principles and distributed system architectures to support high availability and AI/ML integration. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to align engineering efforts with business objectives. The Principal Engineer champions innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence while ensuring solutions meet quality standards and long-term platform evolution goals. About the team: The team focuses on designing, developing, and managing integrations within Workday, CP, Porter platforms, and connected systems. Collaborating across functions, members deliver scalable, secure, and efficient solutions by adhering to best practices in architecture, coding standards, and continuous integration/deployment. Emphasizing clear communication and agile methodologies, the team addresses evolving business needs. Engineers build and maintain Workday business processes, reports, and integrations, ensuring high-quality outcomes. Leveraging expertise in Workday tools, APIs, and web services, the team drives innovation and operational excellence aligned with organizational goals. What you'll do:

  • Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and AI/ML frameworks aligned with strategic roadmaps.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance across multiple teams.
  • Architect cloud-native, distributed systems ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing capabilities.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, promoting best practices and architectural consistency.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into clear technical requirements and measurable success metrics.
  • Champion continuous improvement by integrating innovative tools and fostering a culture of learning and experimentation.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in software development, architecture, and solution design within large-scale, distributed systems.
  • Proven expertise in continuous integration, CI/CD pipelines, and test automation to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages including Java, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead platform engineering efforts, driving scalable, fault-tolerant cloud-native architectures.
  • Skilled in AI/ML integration and building intelligent software systems with real-time data processing capabilities.
  • Effective technical leadership and mentorship, fostering engineering excellence and innovation across teams.
