Job description
We're looking for a Software Development Manager to lead the PDS team (~9 engineers) and own the reliability, scale, and evolution of the services that deliver competitive-pricing signals to Sellers and internal clients in near-real time.
You'll set technical direction for a fleet of latency- and throughput-sensitive distributed systems processing billions of events daily, own the roadmap for our Seller-facing and internal APIs, and drive operational excellence for services that Sellers depend on to make pricing decisions. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll guide architecture and design reviews, unblock engineers on hard distributed-systems and high-throughput event-processing problems, and represent PDS with SP-API, Selling Partner, and internal pricing/science stakeholders.
Key job responsibilities Own the PDS service roadmap: lead the technical strategy and delivery for the team's Seller-facing and internal APIs and event-notification systems (PEN, Featured Offer notifications, SP-API Pricing APIs).
Operate at scale: own the availability, latency, and correctness of systems publishing billions of messages/day and serving high-volume API traffic across WW marketplaces; drive operational excellence, on-call health, and incident reduction. Lead and grow the team: manage, mentor, and develop ~9 SDEs (including senior engineers); own hiring, performance management, and career growth; raise the engineering bar.
Deliver Seller and customer value: ensure Sellers receive timely, actionable, accurate pricing and offer notifications that help them set competitive prices, closing the feedback loop with transparency.
Partner cross-functionally: work with SP-API, Selling Partner Experience, internal pricing consumers, and science teams to meet client needs and evolve the APIs.
Drive scalability and efficiency: evolve the architecture to handle continued growth in Seller adoption and message volume while managing cost and complexity.
Communicate up and out: represent PDS status, risks, and roadmap to WWPP leadership and in planning mechanisms (OP1/OP2, MBR/QBR, operational reviews).
About the team The World-Wide Pricing & Promotions (WWPP) organization powers competitive pricing for Amazon's Selling Partners worldwide. The Pricing Data Services (PDS) team owns the software that gives external Sellers and internal teams a real-time view of the state of competition across Amazon's catalog, so Sellers can set competitive prices that delight customers.
PDS builds and operates public-facing APIs and event-notification systems that let Sellers and internal clients programmatically consume price and offer updates and query pricing facts. These are high-scale, high-impact systems: they serve hundreds of thousands of Sellers worldwide and 10+ internal clients, and publish billions of pricing and offer-change messages per day across US, EU, and JP marketplaces (e.g., Pricing Event Notification / PEN, Featured Offer change notifications, and the SP-API Pricing APIs).
