Job description

  • 360-Degree Technical Leadership: Provide end-to-end technical leadership and direction for an 8-person engineering team consisting of junior engineers, senior professionals, and technical project managers.
  • Architectural Engineering: Design and implement robust, flexible, and scalable software systems, replacing monolithic patterns with highly scalable microservices architectures.
  • Technical Product Shapping: Partner closely with Technical Project Managers (TPMs), Business Managers, and UX Engineers to translate business concepts and Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) into clear technical solutions.
  • Event-Driven Communication: Architect and manage microservices communication frameworks leveraging Apache Kafka as the integral messaging infrastructure.
  • Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) Ownership: Direct the strategy for non-functional requirements, ensuring all deliverables satisfy strict code quality standards, security compliances, and evolving internal checklists.
  • AI Advocacy & Discipline: Drive an "AI discipline" across the team, positively influencing engineering practices to leverage, embrace, and continuously adopt AI tools to maximize development efficiency.
  • Community & Mentorship: Guide and elevate junior team members, clarify complex challenges to set them up for success, and actively collaborate with the broader technical community to learn and share engineering standards.
  • Cross-Functional Blocker Resolution: Swim through complex integration ambiguities and changing business requirements with a resilient, solutions-oriented, and positive attitude.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience with a proven track record of technical leadership.

  • Vast knowledge of Java, including extensive hands-on experience with the latest versions of the language.

  • Proven expertise in modern microservices architecture and distributed systems design.

  • Strong professional experience using Apache Kafka for inter-service communication.

  • Experience with relational databases, with a strong preference for PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MySQL.

  • Experience collaborating with and coordinating tasks for offshore engineering teams in Europe and India (preferred)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience (advanced degree preferred).
