Position Summary... Walmart is seeking a Distinguished Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performance software solutions. This role involves analyzing complex requirements, driving architectural decisions, and guiding teams through the full software development lifecycle. The successful candidate will champion innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement while ensuring alignment with business objectives. Collaboration across functions and mentorship of engineering talent are key components of this position, which supports Walmart's commitment to advancing technology and delivering exceptional value to customers. About the team: The Marketplace Post Purchase team develops and maintains essential capabilities that support sellers in managing critical post-purchase operations, including order shipment, returns, and refunds. The team ensures consistent, accurate, and real-time visibility throughout the order lifecycle for both US and international sellers. Focused on reliability, scalability, and cloud-native architecture, the team drives innovation and operational excellence. Collaboration and mentorship are key, enabling continuous improvement in platform design, software security, and problem-solving to deliver seamless post-purchase experiences aligned with business objectives and customer needs.
What you'll do...
- Analyze and scope requirements to align with business objectives, prioritizing features to deliver minimum viable products.
- Design scalable, modular software architectures ensuring reliability, security, and performance across distributed systems.
- Develop maintainable, testable code adhering to coding standards and optimize application functionality and security.
- Lead testing strategies, including automation and root cause analysis, to ensure comprehensive coverage and defect resolution.
- Oversee continuous integration and deployment processes, monitoring program metrics to maintain system health and performance.
- Mentor teams, promote innovation, and guide technology assessments to enhance platform design and development.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in software architecture, distributed systems, and scalable cloud-native solutions.
- Proven expertise in AI agents, platform design, and operational due diligence to ensure reliability and performance.
- Strong proficiency in coding standards, multiple programming languages, and secure software development practices.
- Ability to analyze and translate complex requirements into modular, maintainable designs aligned with business objectives.
- Skilled in driving continuous integration, deployment pipelines, and telemetry for production environments.
- Demonstrated mentorship capabilities fostering team growth and innovation.

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years' experience in software engineering or related area. Option 2: 8 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
