Job description
**This is a contracted position and will end on 3/1/2027 The Data Administrator will work with behavioral and neuroimaging databases from the ALBA Lab and Memory and Aging Center, which involves the decline of language and cognitive abilities in individuals with neurogenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease and Primary Progressive Aphasia. Under direct supervision of Dr. Jet Vonk, the Database Administrator will acquire skills and knowledge of professional concepts in research data analysis in dementia research, including automated speech analysis. The Database Administrator learns to use professional concepts and best practices in maintaining research databases. Working on problems of limited scope, normally receives detailed instruction on work assignments and primarily works with other members in the incumbent's unit. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. Uses professional concepts, industry standards, and best practices in maintaining databases. Demonstrates functional proficiency / fluency. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate course of action. Applies campus / medical center / OP policies and procedures to resolve a variety of database issues. Works on database problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement
The salary range for this position is $71,994.24 - $154,595.52 (Annual Rate)., 10 Under general supervision, applies professional database concepts, resolves basic procedural and technical issues in the context of department policies and procedures.
10 Works on database-related issues and projects of moderate scope taking in numerous business practice and technical considerations, applying defined IT procedures and practices to database projects.
10 May interact with both members internal and external to their unit.
10 Works on moderately sized databases with multiple tables and end users using basic database design and programming techniques.
10 Implements performance tuning techniques including indexes and advanced SQL syntax.
10 Maintains security and integrity controls.
20 Monitors policies, procedures and standards relating to database management.
20 Assists with implementing enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related area
- Minimum 1 year of related experience
- Knowledge of database management systems and standards
- Knowledge relating to capacity planning and interface specifications.
- Knowledgeable about professional approaches and relevant standards and technology for management of unstructured data such as text and images.
- Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making; problem identification and resolution; identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance through application configuration and programming techniques.
- Has effective written / verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates reasoning and ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
- Demonstrates interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, service orientation, active listening, effective verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills.
- Able to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
- Basic programming skills in bash, R, Python or MATLAB
- Knowledge of RedCap utilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- Basic knowledge of automated speech analysis tools including Whisper OpenAI and spaCy
