Job description

  • Hybrid Telework: This position is eligible for a hybrid telework option, in accordance with CAL FIRE's telework policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
  • This position in located in the Riverpoint Marketplace area of West Sacramento (10 minutes from downtown), near the IKEA. Our building offers a free parking lot to employees and is within walking distance of numerous restaurants and shops.
  • Will be required work at remote facilities or incidents to affect repairs onsite, which can involve overnight travel. Hardware repair requires occasional lifting of PC's and printers which should not exceed 40 pounds., Filing a job application "within the time" shall mean: applications must be postmarked by the United States Postal Service (USPS) or depositing with a parcel delivery or courier service no later than the final filing date specified by the job vacancy announcement, provided that the parcel contains proof of a timely deposit with the parcel delivery or courier service or

Provide details on the business problems that the project solved, and how you helped ensure the project was successful. What do you see the trends affecting and influencing GIS in the near future, and how could they be used at CAL FIRE? What are your suggestions for improving the CAL FIRE public map (available on www.fire.ca.gov)?

Requirements

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Experience designing, administering, or supporting Microsoft Azure enterprise environments.
  • Experience managing or supporting AWS or other cloud service provider environments.
  • Experience with Azure Landing Zones, AWS account structures, cloud networking, identity and access management, monitoring, logging, backup, recovery, governance, and cost management.
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, role-based access control, privileged access management, Azure Policy, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Defender for Cloud, or comparable cloud-native security and monitoring tools.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Azure DevOps, GitHub, source control, infrastructure-as-code, automation, scripting, templates, and repeatable deployment processes.
  • Experience developing architecture diagrams, technical standards, implementation plans, operational procedures, and executive-level technical briefings.
  • Experience evaluating vendor solutions, cloud service requirements, licensing models, security controls, support models, and procurement-related technical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise security principles, cloud governance, change management, risk management, and operational support practices.
  • Advanced IT-related degrees, Azure certification, AWS certification, cloud architecture certification, or equivalent professional experience.
