Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer - Product Manager supporting one of our premier programs. In this role, you will drive the evolution of a critical platform within a fast-paced Agile Release Train (ART), bridging strategic objectives with tactical execution to deliver high-impact capabilities. You will own and prioritize the ART-level product backlog, define and execute the product vision and roadmap, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver mission-critical solutions. Working in a dynamic Agile environment, you will help modernize delivery approaches while balancing agility, security, and mission assurance to support the future of satellite ground systems.

What You Will Do

  • Define and communicate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with program objectives and mission priorities
  • Serve as the primary liaison between stakeholders and the Agile Release Train (ART), translating strategic priorities into executable work while managing and prioritizing the ART-level product backlog
  • Collaborate with System Architects, Systems Engineers, Release Train Engineers (RTEs), and Product Owners to decompose system-level requirements into actionable, testable features
  • Lead backlog refinement, roadmap development, and cross-team dependency coordination in preparation for Program Increment (PI) Planning
  • Monitor feature delivery and program performance using Agile metrics, stakeholder feedback, and mission outcomes to drive continuous improvement and maximize value delivery
  • Partner with Product Owners to translate features into user stories and ensure coordinated delivery across Agile teams
  • Lead and participate in Agile ceremonies, including PI Planning, System Demos, Inspect & Adapt workshops, and backlog refinement sessions to foster continuous improvement
  • Mentor Product Owners while collaborating with functional leads and the Release Train Engineer (RTE) to support resource planning, staffing alignment, and successful program execution

Requirements

Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance, * Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum of 8+ years of prior relevant experience

  • Experience working in Agile environments, including value stream coordination, Agile Release Train (ART) execution, and utilization of Agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Agile planning and reporting platforms
  • Experience supporting ground systems, space operations, or mission planning systems within classified, Department of Defense (DoD), or Intelligence Community (IC) environments
  • Experience with SAFe Agile practices, including product management and/or product ownership responsibilities; SAFe certifications such as SAFe Product Manager/Product Owner (PMPO), SAFe Agilist, or SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) are preferred
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams, managing multi-team dependencies, and collaborating across Agile Release Trains (ARTs) in a Lean-Agile environment

  • Experience applying value stream mapping and similar frameworks to prioritize, plan, and deliver enterprise-level features
  • Experience using design thinking principles and continuous stakeholder engagement to identify, understand, and address user needs
  • Experience with automation, modern software factory practices, and tools such as Cucumber, Gherkin, and Zephyr
  • Experience supporting satellite ground system development or operational environments

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
