Join to apply for the Systems Engineer/DevOps Eng, ESC Managed Operations role at Amazon Web Services (AWS) . AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). To spearhead this initiative, we are actively seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers. For more information on ESC please check out our blog: aws blog link Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing the launch of the ESC in 2025, working closely with global AWS teams, and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology. A typical day involves collaborating with technology leaders, contributing to the enhancement of day-to-day operations, and ensuring improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC. Additionally, you will engage in development and testing of scripts to improve workflows, share insights with service teams about the European Sovereign Cloud, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement. UC provides innovations from foundational services such as S3 and EC2 to ongoing product innovations that distinguish AWS. Managed Operations engineers engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services. You will review the operational health of services under your responsibility, identify anomalies, and prepare actionable bug reports to improve efficiency and performance. You'll offer feedback on change management documents, address operational backlog, develop and test scripts, and educate service teams about the ESC. You will be part of a team that values continuous learning and strives to deliver reliable software systems. Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Candidate must be a national of an EU member state and reside in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union. Employees will participate in an On-Call rota. Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems. Experience scripting processes in Bash, Python, or Ruby. Solid understanding of Linux and networking; ability to troubleshoot and anticipate problems affecting performance, reliability, or availability of software systems. Experience with monitoring frameworks (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic, or similar). Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading cross-organizational efforts requiring collaboration across teams. Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud environments.
