Job description
This role is focused on team leadership, production support, workflow structure, and technical problem-solving. You will work closely with Technical Artists, artists, developers, producers, leads, and management to help teams deliver quality at scale. The Lead Technical Artist will guide the Tech Art team in alignment with project direction, support management decisions, and help translate them into concrete production actions. This role also contributes to the wider Tech Art direction of the studio by supporting initiatives driven by the Tech Art leadership., 1. Production Support, Workflows & Technical Art Delivery
- Support Tech Art production on active projects.
- Help define, structure, and maintain workflows, pipelines, and technical processes.
- Ensure Tech Art solutions are production-ready, scalable, documented, and usable by artists.
- Identify technical risks, blockers, and production issues early.
- Work with artists and developers to solve complex technical and artistic challenges.
- Contribute to project structure, naming conventions, pipeline documentation, tools, and onboarding material.
- Support performance, stability, and quality expectations in collaboration with project leadership.
- Ensure solutions are tested in real production conditions, not only theoretically valid.
- Team Leadership & Management
- Guide, support, and mentor Technical Artists in their daily work.
- Help define priorities, assign tasks, and follow progress with production.
- Ensure team members are not blocked and have the right information to move forward.
- Review work to maintain quality, consistency, and efficiency.
- Support career development through feedback, coaching, and regular follow-up.
- Help the team grow through production challenges, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
- Foster a collaborative and respectful team culture where people support each other.
- Studio Tech Art Contribution
Beyond project work, this role contributes to the wider Tech Art direction of the studio by supporting initiatives already defined by the current Tech Art leadership, helping structure practices, workflows, and collaboration across teams and projects.
This includes :
- Supporting the growth and structuring of Tech Art across the studio.
- Helping bring consistency in practices, workflows, and expectations.
- Strengthening collaboration across teams, projects, and French studios.
- Contributing to shared documentation, training material, and knowledge sharing.
- Supporting cross-project initiatives, technical reviews, and process improvements.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with developers, artists, production, leads, and management.
- Communicate clearly on technical topics with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Help translate project needs into concrete Tech Art actions.
- Escalate risks and blockers when needed.
- Collaborate with international Virtuos teams and external clients.
- Support alignment between project goals, art direction, technical constraints, and production planning.
Requirements
$Qualifications & Experience
- Significant experience in the video game industry as a Technical Artist, Senior Technical Artist, Lead Technical Artist, or similar role.
- Strong experience with Unreal Engine is essential.
- Solid understanding of real-time production constraints, art pipelines, optimization, and performance.
- Strong understanding of at least several Tech Art domains such as :
- environment pipelines
- shaders and materials
- tools and automation
- procedural workflows
- VFX or lighting support
- character or animation pipelines
- profiling and optimization
- Ability to guide Technical Artists and support their growth.
- Experience working with artists, developers, producers, and leads in production.
- Ability to structure workflows, document processes, and make solutions usable by production teams.
- Good understanding of modern game technologies, production pipelines, and technical constraints.
- Ability to take ownership, anticipate issues, and propose practical solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and spoken English required.
- French is highly appreciated, but not mandatory.
- Experience with AAA production or co-development is a strong plus.
