Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Senior Infrastructure Consultants to join our Cloud Operations team within IT at Hampshire County Council.

Are you looking for a challenging and diverse role within a friendly, high-performing and supportive team, where you can make a real difference?

The Role:

Hampshire County Council is recognised as one of the top-performing local authorities in the UK. As a forward-looking local authority, we are proud to deliver high-quality public services to over a million residents, with our IT teams playing a vital role in that success.

As part of our forward-thinking and nationally respected IT function, we are looking for Senior Infrastructure Consultants to join our dynamic Cloud Operations Team.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Infrastructure Consultant within the Cloud Operations team, you will provide technical expertise for enterprise IT solutions, ensuring they operate effectively and remain aligned with business needs, corporate strategies, and architectural standards. Your focus will be on maintaining and improving existing cloud and infrastructure services as part of BAU operations, while managing evergreen changes to keep systems secure, compliant, and up to date.

You will work across a broad range of technologies and act as a subject matter expert in one or more of the following areas:

Microsoft Cloud Services:

  • Microsoft 365 administration, governance, and optimisation
  • Azure identity, security, authentication, PaaS/IaaS, and platform services
  • Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, SSO, app registrations, and enterprise applications

Device Management - Intune:

  • Windows 11 and Android mobile device management
  • Windows 11 Autopilot, compliance policies, app deployment, and patch management
  • Security baselines and device hardening

Automation & Infrastructure as Code:

  • PowerShell automation and scripting
  • Infrastructure as code using ARM, Bicep, or Terraform
  • DevOps, CI/CD, and automated cloud deployments

Core Infrastructure:

  • Windows Server administration
  • Virtualisation platforms (e.g., Hyper V, VMware)
  • Networking fundamentals, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalling, and connectivity troubleshooting

The role involves providing technical input and advice to management, helping inform IT direction and promoting awareness of IT policies, technologies, systems, and processes. You will also support the development of less experienced colleagues through collaboration, peer reviews, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

We are seeking an enthusiastic, technically skilled professional who will have a strong technical background with expertise in enterprise-scale Microsoft Cloud and Windows end-user computing technologies, within a corporate setting. This is a senior cloud technology role offering the opportunity to work closely with stakeholders, providing expert advice, consultancy, and strategic guidance on IT solutions and cloud technologies. Whether you are looking to progress into a role at this level or already have experience operating in a similar capacity, we would love to hear from you. You will thrive in a collaborative, high performing environment, working alongside motivated and supportive colleagues to deliver excellence and drive innovation in public service IT.

Benefits & conditions

Our benefits package includes details of the holiday entitlement, pension scheme, flexi-time scheme, family friendly policies and interest free travel loans and discounts. We offer a flexible, motivating, and inclusive workplace. We have created an environment that you can look forward to being a part of, where you are empowered to be your best and a workplace built on teamwork where people can grow and develop in their roles.

Hampshire County Council offers a pleasant, supportive, and collaborative working environment.
