Job description

We are looking for an experienced IT Systems Engineer to design, implement, maintain and support our IT infrastructure across both on-premises and cloud environments. You'll be required to participate in a planned monthly patching window, which includes up to one weekend day per month.

You will play an important role in ensuring our systems remain secure, reliable and high-performing. Working closely with colleagues across IT, security and the wider business, you will provide technical expertise, resolve complex infrastructure issues and support system upgrades, migrations and new technology rollouts.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership and continually improving systems and processes., * Design, deploy and maintain Windows and/or Linux server environments.

  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, Azure AD and identity services.
  • Support and optimise Microsoft Azure and/or AWS cloud environments.
  • Monitor system performance, availability and capacity.
  • Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
  • Maintain network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, VPNs, firewalls and switches.
  • Apply security best practices, including patching and vulnerability management.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and provide third-line technical support.
  • Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Bash or Python.
  • Produce and maintain clear system, process and architecture documentation.
  • Support IT projects, including migrations, upgrades and new system rollouts.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and share technical knowledge across the team.

Requirements

You will have:

  • Proven experience as a Systems Engineer or in a similar infrastructure-focused role.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2016, 2019 or 2022 and/or Linux.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Azure AD and Intune.
  • Experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V or Azure Virtual Machines.
  • A solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and VPNs.
  • Experience implementing or managing backup and recovery solutions.
  • An understanding of security principles such as MFA, endpoint protection and least-privilege access.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to take ownership of work and consistently deliver high-quality results.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to share knowledge with colleagues.

Desirable

  • Experience working with both on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience using data and system insights to support decision-making.
  • A proactive approach to learning and keeping technical knowledge up to date.
  • An interest in automation and finding new ways to improve efficiency.
  • The ability to constructively challenge existing processes and suggest practical improvements.
  • The ability to obtain the level of security clearance required for the role (SC).
