Job description

A leading organisation delivering large-scale digital and data transformation programmes is seeking an experienced Platform Engineer/Security Architect to support a major cloud and security modernisation initiative. Working within a complex and evolving environment, you will play a key role in building secure Azure platforms, implementing cloud infrastructure, and ensuring security is Embedded throughout the technology landscape. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineer who combines deep Azure platform expertise with strong security architecture knowledge and can work effectively in an early-stage delivery environment where requirements continue to evolve. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and deploying Azure infrastructure, implementing Infrastructure as Code, supporting Secure by Design principles, and ensuring platforms are built in accordance with industry-leading security standards and best practices. Experience within highly regulated environments such as Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare, NHS, Life Sciences, Central Government, Financial Services, or other regulated sectors would be highly advantageous., * Design, build and configure secure Azure platform environments.

  • Develop, maintain and enhance Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Create, manage and maintain reusable Terraform modules for scalable deployments.
  • Provision infrastructure through automated deployment pipelines following security best practices.
  • Act as the security lead for platform components and ensure security requirements are met.
  • Support Secure by Design activities, threat assessments and security controls implementation.
  • Build, deploy and support containerised applications using Docker.
  • Work closely with security teams, architects and delivery stakeholders.
  • Develop security standards, documentation, migration plans and operational handover materials.
  • Operate effectively within a fast-paced project environment with evolving requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong experience deploying and managing Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform Scripting, including creation and maintenance of reusable modules.
  • Experience provisioning infrastructure through CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security principles and secure platform design.
  • Experience building and deploying Docker-based applications.
  • Experience working with Azure resource management and landing zone best practices.
  • Ability to operate as a hands-on engineer while contributing to security architecture activities.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in discovery and early-stage delivery environments.

Desirable Experience:

  • Security Architecture experience or equivalent practical background.
  • Knowledge of NCSC Secure by Design principles and security frameworks.
  • Experience conducting threat assessments and security reviews.
  • Experience with Azure security tooling and governance controls.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and Fabric deployment pipelines.
  • Public Sector, Government or Arms-Length Body experience.
  • Experience within healthcare, life sciences, regulatory or pharmaceutical environments.
  • Experience operating as the security focal point within complex transformation programmes.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership across platform engineering and security disciplines.
