Job description
This is a hands-on Digital Web Developer position, embedded within a marketing team and focused on the development, optimisation, and ongoing enhancement of public-facing websites. You will work closely with a key marketing stakeholder to deliver improvements, build new functionality, and ensure websites align with broader strategic goals. The role is highly delivery-focused, with responsibility for taking ownership of development tasks from concept through to implementation. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and enhancing WordPress-based websites, with a strong emphasis on performance, scalability, and SEO
- Supporting the delivery of a defined SEO strategy to drive traffic and improve client conversion
- Building responsive, high-quality web pages using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Collaborating with marketing stakeholders to translate requirements into effective web solutions
- Identifying opportunities for improvement and proactively recommending enhancements
- Ensuring websites are optimised for speed, usability, and mobile performance
- Contributing to ongoing innovation and continuous improvement initiatives
The role is predominantly WordPress-focused, working closely with the marketing team, with some interaction with internal IT functions where required.
This is an office-based role, requiring attendance 4-5 days per week to enable close collaboration with the marketing team and wider business stakeholders. Salary is up to £35,000. Person
Requirements
We are looking for a motivated and commercially aware Web Developer who enjoys working in a collaborative, marketing-led environment. You will bring:
- Strong experience with WordPress and PHP
- Solid skills in core front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Proven understanding of SEO principles and how they influence web development
- Awareness of software engineering best practices, version control (e.g. Git), and CI/CD concepts
- Exposure to cloud-based or modern infrastructure environments (desirable but not essential)
In addition, you will:
- Have a proactive mindset, with the ability to identify improvements rather than simply react to briefs
- Understand the broader marketing context, including user experience, web traffic and conversion
- Be comfortable working closely with non-technical stakeholders
- Take ownership of your work and demonstrate strong attention to detail
- Be collaborative, communicative, and keen to continuously learn and improve
