Key Responsibilities
Lift System Design
Develop and review technical specifications for traction, hydraulic, machine room less and platform lift systems.
Technical Leadership
Provide engineering guidance to project managers, installation teams, service engineers and external contractors.
Project Engineering
Support projects from initial site assessment and concept development through installation, commissioning and final handover.
Compliance and Safety
Ensure lift systems comply with applicable UK legislation, British Standards, health and safety requirements and industry codes of practice.
Technical Reviews
Review drawings, calculations, equipment selections, method statements and risk assessments before project approval.
Modernisation Planning
Assess existing lift systems and recommend practical upgrade, replacement and lifecycle improvement solutions.
Fault Investigation
Lead complex technical investigations involving recurring faults, performance issues and system failures.
Quality Assurance
Carry out technical inspections and verify that installation and maintenance work meets company and regulatory standards.
Stakeholder Management
Present technical recommendations clearly to clients, consultants, contractors, facilities teams and internal management.
Team Development
Mentor engineers and technical staff while supporting knowledge sharing and consistent engineering practices.
Requirements
This is a senior technical position for an experienced lift engineer who can combine hands on industry knowledge with strong design, compliance and stakeholder management skills., At least 7 years of experience within the lift, elevator or vertical transportation industry, including responsibility for complex technical projects.
Technical Knowledge
Strong knowledge of lift design, installation, maintenance, modernisation, control systems, electrical systems and mechanical components.
Qualifications
A degree, higher national qualification or equivalent professional experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, building services engineering or a related discipline.
Industry Standards
Good working knowledge of relevant lift regulations, British Standards, health and safety legislation and statutory inspection requirements.
Leadership
Previous experience providing technical guidance, mentoring engineers or leading multidisciplinary engineering activities.
Problem Solving
Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate technical problems and develop safe, cost effective solutions.
Communication
Confident written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical matters to both engineering and non technical stakeholders.
Software Skills
Experience using engineering design software, Microsoft Office and technical documentation systems. Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drawing software is desirable.
