Job description
As a Senior Software Engineeron the Software Defined Network (SDN) and Network Observability Team, you will design and develop the software systems that manage, route, and monitor Blue Origin's dynamic satellite network in real time. You will build distributed services that enable network planning, orchestration, telemetry processing, and observability across thousands of user terminals, satellites, and terrestrial infrastructure. Working closely with spacecraft, user, and ground systems engineers, you'll help build resilient software that keeps the constellation operating reliably under constantly changing orbital conditions. Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design and develop highly available, low-latency distributed services supporting network orchestration, telemetry collection, and control plane operations across the TeraWave constellation.
- Build software that plans, disseminates, and coordinates state across terrestrial infrastructure, orbital assets, and users while maintaining reliability and consistency under dynamic network conditions.
- Develop scalable data pipelines capable of ingesting and processing high-volume telemetry streams to improve network visibility and operational responsiveness.
- Design efficient data models and storage solutions using relational, NoSQL, search, and streaming technologies to support real-time operational workflows.
- Build APIs and services that enable reliable communication between network planning, control, and execution components.
- Collaborate with spacecraft, RF, networking, and ground systems engineers to integrate software across the broader TeraWave platform.
- Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks in large-scale distributed systems with a focus on latency, throughput, and operational reliability.
- Participate in operational support for mission-critical services, including on-call rotations and launch or mission operations as required.
- Contribute to software architecture, design reviews, coding standards, and engineering best practices across the SDN and Network Observability organization., Applicants for employment at Blue Origin must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S.as a refugee or granted asylum.
