Job description

The IT Application Manager/Supervisor is accountable for the leadership, stability, performance, and continuous improvement of MMIC's application portfolio, including Guidewire Insurance Now and related integrations. This role provides both strategic oversight and hands-on leadership to ensure applications effectively support and enhance business operations.

The IT Application Manager/Supervisor leads application development, support, deployment, data administration, and modernization initiatives while ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, security standards, and regulatory requirements. This position plays a critical role in driving Continuous Service Improvement (CSI), strengthening operational discipline through defined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performing technology solutions., * Manages staffing and staff development, including recruitment, supervision, organizational structure, individual and team development, performance management, evaluations, and disciplinary actions.

  • Creates and maintains a collaborative, service-oriented team environment that promotes accountability, teamwork, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Manages daily operations of Guidewire and related application environments in support of business operations, ensuring system stability, performance, and security.
  • Develops and maintains application strategy and roadmap aligned with corporate objectives and technology standards.
  • Partners with business leaders, architects, and IT teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions supporting business initiatives.
  • Establishes, maintains, and enforces Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for development, deployment, support, change management, and release processes.
  • Leads Continuous Service Improvement (CSI) initiatives to enhance system reliability, operational efficiency, service quality, and delivery effectiveness.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs analysis, design, development, integration, and deployment activities to ensure compliance with functional, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews and approves application changes, upgrades, and enhancements to ensure alignment with business needs and architectural standards.
  • Monitors application performance metrics and prepares regular status reports for senior leadership.
  • Maintains vendor relationships and evaluates technology solutions to support corporate goals and cost efficiencies.
  • Ensures compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and governance standards in the use of computing resources.
  • Actively participates in professional development and performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Other duties assigned by leadership, either verbally or in writing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field required.
  • 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience managing technical teams, with Guidewire InsuranceNow or insurance application experience preferred. Strong technical candidates will also be considered.
  • Experience managing cloud-based and virtualized infrastructure environments.
  • Demonstrated experience participating in IT operational planning and contributing to strategic objective setting.
  • Experience working in an Agile application development and project management environment.
  • Strong understanding of application portfolio management, cost optimization, and technical lifecycleplanning.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and execute effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong project and program management capabilities across varying levels of complexity and duration.
  • Effective communicator capable of engaging all levels of leadership and navigating sensitive or adversarial situations with professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Highly self-motivated with strong attention to detail and operational discipline.
  • Knowledge of insurance product development processes, including product configuration, rating, forms, underwriting rules, and the application lifecycle supporting new product and product enhancement initiatives.
