We're seeking a Public Safety Information Technology Specialist who thrives on solving problems, supporting essential systems, and keeping critical communication technology running smoothly. In this role, your hands-on technical skills will directly support first responders, dispatch operations, and regional radio infrastructure-helping ensure our community stays connected and protected., Under the direction of the IT Administrator provides technical support to computer end users over the phone and in person, driving to the users' location when necessary; Performs routine network systems checks to ensure functionality.
Assists in maintaining records for computers and assigned users. Performs random audits to ensure anti-virus software is current and updates when needed; Troubleshoots hardware and system connectivity issues; research computer related problems; documents issues and solutions.
Assists in maintaining, repairs, upgrades, and sets up computers, peripheral devices, software applications, and accessories, including printers, keyboards, scanners, monitors, and/or other related equipment; performs cabling for both voice and data as needed.
Assists in monitoring day-to-day computer software OS and Application support issues related to standard and non-standard software. Includes product installation, product upgrades, product fixes, troubleshooting, and interaction with vendor technical support.
Supports the administration, design, testing, implementation, maintenance, and modification of computer systems, hardware, software applications, security protocols, and databases. Assists in monitoring technology performance and ensuring the quality and reliability of information systems and related components.
Supports restoring equipment and installations to proper working condition or coordinates with appropriate vendors when repairs are needed. Assists in communicating and coordinating with technicians, mechanics, and off-site repair services to help ensure timely completion of installation and repair tasks for communications equipment.
Supports monitoring the dispatch center, consoles, servers, and radio interface systems to ensure they are operating correctly. Helps observe equipment at fixed sites, towers, repeaters, and receivers for potential issues. Assists in diagnosing and addressing equipment problems as needed to restore proper operation.
Supports the development and planning of two-way radio communication projects, including helping prepare equipment specifications, assisting with purchasing processes, and contributing to bid documentation to ensure selected equipment and vendors meet project requirements.
Work with other cities, counties, and state agencies to improve the regional two-way radio infrastructure.
Supports administrative tasks related to computer operations, including setting up and resetting usernames and passwords, locking accounts, and performing other basic account management activities. Assists in training employees on standard computer procedures and usage.
Coordinates and communicates with the City of Show Low Information Technology staff to support shared projects and ensure collaboration.
Supports ongoing efforts to improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and streamline work processes while working cooperatively to provide high-quality customer service. Participates in achieving organizational, departmental, and team goals and objectives.
Performs all duties in strict compliance with appropriate safety and security standards. Ensures all applicable safety and health rules and regulations are followed.
Performs other duties of a similar nature as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in related computer science field
- Four (4) years of increasingly responsible IT and Network Support experience
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of personal computer hardware and software, basic database principles, computerized systems (Police, Fire, EMS) and electronic data processing; knowledge of local and wide area network technology, server and workstation configuration
- Knowledge of local and wide area network hardware and software is required. Necessary knowledge of network technology includes that of TCP/IP protocol, Ethernet 10/100/1000 topology, and Firewall traversal
- Knowledge of the following Operating Systems is necessary: Windows10 to current, Windows Server 2012 to current. Specific software applications include Microsoft SQL, and Microsoft Office 365.
- Knowledge of VMware systems and maintenance.
- Knowledge of public safety Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Software (RMS) is preferred
- Knowledge of mobile data terminal setup, operation and troubleshooting connected through cellular internet, with and without VPN is preferred
- Knowledge of E911 systems, both analog and digital; computer telephone integration, and wireless/wireline carrier services is preferred
- Ability to work with public safety personnel from multiple agencies (Fire / Law enforcement) in a confidential manner
