Job description

Our client is seeking a Lead Network Engineer to support the design, implementation, and ongoing stability of their enterprise network environment. This person will serve as a senior technical resource across network projects, escalated support, and infrastructure strategy, with a strong focus on Cisco networking, data center/campus environments, cloud connectivity, DNS/DDI, firewalls, SD-WAN, and network security. This role is ideal for someone who has been hands-on in complex enterprise environments, preferably healthcare or hospital systems. The right candidate will be able to troubleshoot deeply, explain what they did and how they did it, lead technical direction, and guide junior engineers and network data technicians. This position is 50% project-based and 50% Tier 2/3 support and requires three days onsite Tuesday-Thursday in North Philadelphia. Responsibilities Design, implement, maintain, and support enterprise network infrastructure across data center, campus, wireless, firewall, cloud, and SD-WAN environments. Lead technical direction for network initiatives, including migrations, upgrades, routing changes, load balancing, cloud connectivity, and network security improvements. Provide Tier 2/3 troubleshooting for complex network issues, including routing, switching, firewall, wireless, DNS/DDI, application performance, latency, and connectivity incidents. Triage and isolate network issues impacting clinical and business applications, such as application slowness, imaging transmission issues, or data center connectivity problems. Partner with senior engineers, infrastructure teams, application teams, security teams, and external vendors to resolve issues and deliver projects. Support network migration efforts, including the eventual transition from Extreme and Aruba environments to a more standardized Cisco footprint. Help design and support routing from campus locations to data centers and cloud environments, including load balancing and workload movement between on-prem and cloud. Mentor and guide junior network engineers and network data technicians by providing technical leadership, direction, and best practices. Develop and maintain network standards, identify areas for improvement, recommend upgrades, and support long-term network strategy. Participate in 24x7 on-call support rotation for critical network infrastructure.

Requirements

5+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-level network infrastructure in a mid-to-large scale environment. Strong hands-on Cisco networking experience across data center, campus, routing/switching, and SD-WAN environments. Experience with network protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VxLAN, ACI, SD-WAN, and Wi-Fi protocols. Experience configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless infrastructure, DNS/DDI, and network monitoring tools. Hands-on experience with Infoblox DNS/DDI. Cloud networking experience with Azure and/or AWS. Strong understanding of network security concepts, firewall principles, segmentation, routing policies, and secure connectivity. Ability to perform deep technical troubleshooting, understand root cause, and clearly explain what was done, why it was done, and how issues were resolved. Experience leading technical workstreams, guiding junior resources, and owning design or implementation decisions. Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, non-technical stakeholders, vendors, and leadership.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Healthcare or hospital IT experience. Network migration experience, especially moving from Extreme or Aruba to Cisco. Experience with Extreme and/or Aruba networking environments. Palo Alto firewall experience; other enterprise firewall experience will also be considered. Experience working with strategic partners or integrators on network design and implementation projects.
