Job description

IP Services is seeking a motivated Operations Technician with a foundational understanding of IT systems, networking, and operating systems to join our growing team. In this role, you'll help ensure the stability, security, and performance of critical infrastructure by completing routine system checks, monitoring alerts, and supporting a wide range of technologies. This is a great opportunity to expand your technical expertise and grow into more advanced roles over time., * Perform regular system health checks, including backup verification, log reviews, and alert testing (daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly)

  • Monitor data center infrastructure: servers, storage, power systems, HVAC, and security
  • Support a range of technologies including Windows, Linux, cybersecurity tools, backup systems, and networking devices
  • Assist with equipment racking, cabling, and labeling as well as hardware upgrades and troubleshooting
  • Maintain clear and accurate documentation of tasks, procedures, and incidents
  • Respond to service tickets and system alerts using standardized tools and procedures
  • Learn and apply best practices based on ITIL (Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management)
  • Support the team in ongoing infrastructure and client projects
  • Participate in an on-call rotation (after training), responding to incidents as the first-line responder

Requirements

  • Proven interest or background in IT environments, technical support, help desk, or systems operations

Basic understanding of:

  • Operating systems (Windows, Linux)
  • Network components (switches, firewalls, routers)
  • Hardware components (CPU, memory, storage, backup devices)
  • Cloud computing and remote access tools
  • Ability to read and follow technical diagrams and procedures
  • Familiarity with MS Office and general productivity tools
  • Comfortable lifting/moving 25-50 lbs of equipment when required
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and stay organized
  • Willingness to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to a dynamic environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred but Not Required:

  • IT certifications (CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, Linux+, etc.)
  • Exposure to monitoring or ticketing systems
  • Understanding of data center operations, power systems, or environmental controls
  • Located within 30 minutes of the Springfield data center (for on-call coverage)
