Job description

This professional and highly skilled analyst position works as a member of Kaukahi's project team supporting the development and maintenance of client utility Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Working in conjunction with program goals and guidelines, the GIS Analyst collaborates with utility project stakeholders to ensure GIS information and services are delivered on an ongoing basis. Duties are performed under the direction of the assigned Project Manager and are subject to review through oral and written reports and by inspection. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Enter spatial data using established GIS workflows, coordinate geometry, digitizing methods, and georeferencing techniques.
  • Georeference design plans, record surveys, and historic maps for integration into GIS databases.
  • Produce custom maps, exhibits, and sketches using ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • Perform ArcGIS spatial analysis and geoprocessing to generate spreadsheets, data tables, statistics, and project deliverables.
  • Develop, update, and maintain GIS data libraries and field data collection feature codes.
  • Create and maintain static geometric utility networks and perform routine diagnostics to ensure data integrity and network accuracy.
  • Review GIS data for completeness and accuracy by applying established quality control (QC) procedures.
  • Create, edit, and maintain GIS features, attributes, and metadata from multiple data sources.
  • Respond to client and stakeholder requests for GIS data, maps, and related information.
  • Incorporate record (as-built) surveys into the GIS database through georeferencing and hyperlinking to utility features.
  • Maintain current knowledge of GIS principles, functionality, database design, emerging technologies, and related hardware and software.
  • Assist with construction inspections, as required.
  • Support underground utility locate activities when needed.
  • Represent Kaukahi at client meetings, project meetings, and other stakeholder engagements as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support project objectives, client requirements, and mission needs.
  • Adapt to evolving project priorities and responsibilities as directed by company and project leadership., Physical Requirements: Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and typing or reading from a computer screen. This position requires sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, crouching, climbing, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, grasping, and repetitive hand and finger movements to perform assigned duties in a timely and efficient manner. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may include warehouses, garages, industrial facilities, and field environments with exposure to varying weather conditions, extreme temperatures, noise, dust, odors, heights, and other changing environmental conditions. The position may involve exposure to hazardous materials, heavy equipment, and other physical safety risks. Employees may be required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and successfully complete applicable medical evaluations or clearances. The position requires visual acuity, hearing, and effective verbal communication. Frequent lifting and carrying of 25 to 50 pounds is required, with occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds as necessary. Employees may also be required to walk or stand for more than six (6) hours per day. Kaukahi reserves the right to change or modify job duties and assignments at any time. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Information Systems Management, or a closely related field with major coursework in GIS; or
  • Equivalent academic credentials related to GIS. A GIS certification may be accepted as an equivalent qualification.
  • 7-10 years of experience utilizing GIS technology in a multi-user GIS environment.
  • Comparable combinations of education, training, and experience may be substituted for certain minimum qualifications.
  • Valid state driver's license, or the ability to obtain and maintain one upon employment. Driving record that meets Kaukahi's driving policy and insurance requirements.

Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

  • Utility distribution systems
  • Utility locating and surveying
  • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
  • Trimble Business Center
  • Trimble Access
  • ArcGIS extensions and add-ons/

Preferred certifications:

  • Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP)
  • ESRI ArcGIS Desktop Professional (EADP)

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Science (GIS) principles and technologies.
  • Knowledge of GPS receivers and field data collection techniques.
  • Knowledge of GPS satellite constellation theory, signalization, GPS receivers, field data collection hardware, and post-processing methods.
  • Knowledge of data entry principles, including digitizing and georeferencing from aerial imagery and mapping products.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and organizational practices.
  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS (ArcMap) and/or ArcGIS Pro.
  • Ability to integrate CAD data within ArcGIS Desktop environments.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to operate scanners, printers, large-format plotters, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to use personal computers and standard office software, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications.

Leadership and Communication

  • Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to junior GIS analysts and field technicians.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with clients, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Ability to clearly present ideas both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to organize work, prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
