Job description

This is not a traditional software developer role and should not be recruited as one. The manager is seeking a technically strong application/infrastructure support professional who can install, configure, upgrade, integrate, document, and troubleshoot third-party vendor applications in a predominantly Microsoft environment. The strongest backgrounds are likely to come from system engineering, Windows infrastructure, SQL Server/DBA, application support, production/application engineering, or network/infrastructure engineering.

Top 5 Priorities Identified by the Manager

  • Windows / Microsoft operating environment
  • SQL Server / database understanding
  • Control-M
  • Networking fundamentals: IP addresses, MAC addresses, DNS, firewalls, segmented networks, TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS
  • Reporting tools / reporting capability (examples: Crystal Reports, QlikView/Qlik Sense or comparable tools)

Core Responsibilities

  • Install and configure third-party vendor software.
  • Support application upgrades, releases, vulnerability remediation, software currency, and lifecycle activities.
  • Prepare or coordinate supporting infrastructure such as Windows servers and SQL databases; partner with dedicated infrastructure and DBA teams rather than directly owning all hardware/database administration.
  • Own implementation, integration components, configuration, documentation, and delivery through the development/application lifecycle.
  • Create and maintain installation procedures, release documentation, application documentation, and Confluence content.
  • Support vendor applications at an L2/L3 application-support level; troubleshoot functional issues, investigate root cause, and escalate to vendors when appropriate.
  • Work with vendors through troubleshooting sessions, screen sharing, issue resolution, patches, upgrades, and vulnerability fixes.
  • Use ServiceNow incident queues; tickets are only approximately 5 10% of the workload.
  • Use Control-M for scheduling and support basic reporting requirements.
  • Partner with Global Security Operations, SRE, infrastructure, network, database, hardware, and external vendor teams.
  • Support applications that manage physical security systems and devices such as access control, turnstiles, biometric systems/readers, badge-related systems, and electronic key cabinets.
  • Determine whether issues originate from hardware, software, configuration, database, network, or vendor product layers.
  • Use PowerShell or other scripting to automate selected tasks and activities.
  • Adhere to architecture, risk, security, and data-management standards.

Requirements

  • 3 5 years of system engineering, application support, Windows infrastructure, SQL Server/DBA, or related technical support experience.
  • Strong Windows background and solid SQL Server/database fundamentals.
  • Understands networking well enough to troubleshoot application connectivity across IP, MAC, DNS, firewall, TCP/IP, HTTP, and HTTPS layers.
  • Has installed, configured, upgraded, or supported packaged/vendor applications.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting without source-code access.
  • Can research independently, learn unfamiliar products quickly, and drive tasks forward without waiting for step-by-step instructions.
  • Can present options and a recommended technical path after investigating a problem.
  • Comfortable working with vendors, users, SRE, infrastructure, network, DBA, and hardware/operations teams.
  • Accepts a role with minimal coding and is genuinely interested in application/infrastructure support.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Experience with IoT, connected devices, physical security technology, access control, or hardware-integrated applications is a plus.
