Job description
The mission of the API Office is to empower the Edward Jones Digital community to design, create and maintain impactful API Products by providing API consulting, promoting API lifecycle standards and best practices, and driving execution of the firm's API Strategy to advance overall API maturity.
As an API Engineer III in the API Office, you will play a key role in designing and delivering API-first solutions with a strong emphasis on developer experience. You will ensure that solutions are secure, scalable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise objectives, while collaborating across teams to drive consistency and innovation.
What You'll Do:
- Design, develop, and implement RESTful APIs aligned with Edward Jones standards and industry best practices
- Partner with Product Owners, Architects, and cross-functional stakeholders to define requirements and deliver solutions from design through deployment
- Create and maintain clear, comprehensive API documentation for internal and external developers
- Develop user-facing documentation for API Office services and offerings
- Implement and enforce security controls, including authentication and authorization to protect systems and information
- Participate in code reviews and design walkthroughs to ensure code quality, consistency, and maintainability
- Contribute to on-call support rotations to ensure system reliability and operational excellence
- Champion API lifecycle management standards and promote an API-first culture across the organization
- Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in API design and integration
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience developing and supporting scalable applications, APIs, HTTP-based integrations, and web services
- Strong proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, Python, and Node.js
- Experience building and deploying applications using Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience working in Microsoft Azure environments
- Proven ability to design APIs using the OpenAPI Specification (OAS)
- Solid understanding of API security standards, including OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions and related automation technologies
What Will Set You Apart
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience with contract testing and API mocking
- Experience with Rust is a plus
- Experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform for API management
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver technical solutions
- Experience working in Agile development environments
- Experience supporting projects and delivering results in fast-paced, evolving environments
