Job description
Syneren is seeking a highly skilled Systems Administrator/ Network Engineer to lead the strategic modernization of our enterprise IT infrastructure. This role will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and supporting secure network and cloud solutions while driving the migration of legacy on-premises systems to Microsoft Azure. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in network engineering, Windows-based systems, cloud technologies, identity and access management, and cybersecurity best practices, with a focus on Zero Trust Architecture and enterprise-scale infrastructure operations., * Lead the phased migration of on-premises infrastructure and services to Microsoft Azure.
- Design and implement secure hybrid and cloud-native network architectures.
- Configure and manage Azure networking components, including Virtual Networks (VNets), ExpressRoute, Azure Firewall, VPN Gateways, and network security controls.
- Support Windows-based workloads and services operating within cloud environments.
Network Engineering & Operations
- Design, implement, monitor, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, including routing, switching, firewalls, and load balancing solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex network performance issues across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.
- Optimize network availability, resiliency, and performance for mission-critical applications.
- Provide administration and support for Citrix networking and remote access technologies.
Identity & Access Management
- Administer and integrate Active Directory, Azure Active Directory (Microsoft Entra ID), and identity management solutions.
- Implement Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) policies and best practices.
- Support authentication, authorization, and least-privilege access controls throughout the enterprise environment.
Zero Trust & Cybersecurity
- Ensure network and cloud architectures align with Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) principles.
- Implement security controls that protect users, devices, applications, and data regardless of network location.
- Support compliance with enterprise security standards, STIG requirements, RMF controls, and cloud security frameworks.
Infrastructure Support & Optimization
- Manage Windows server environments and enterprise infrastructure services.
- Support cloud-hosted Windows services and applications.
- Monitor system health, capacity, and performance while proactively identifying areas for improvement.
- Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Technical Expertise
- Active CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification required.
- 5+ years of experience in network engineering and infrastructure support.
- Strong experience with routing, switching, firewall administration, and network troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services and networking technologies.
- Experience supporting and administering Windows-based systems and server environments.
- Experience managing Windows services in cloud environments, including Azure-hosted workloads.
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory and Azure Active Directory (Microsoft Entra ID).
- Experience with Citrix technologies, including Citrix NetScaler (Citrix ADC) administration and support.
- Experience with hybrid cloud networking, VPNs, load balancing, and secure remote access solutions.
Framework & Compliance Knowledge
- Understanding of Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) principles and implementation.
- Experience applying Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) practices.
- Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF), STIGs, and secure cloud computing architectures.
- Knowledge of federal cybersecurity and cloud security best practices is preferred.
Certifications
- Active CCNA certification required.
- Must meet DoD 8570.01-M / 8140 requirements for IAT/IAM Level II or III.
- Microsoft Azure certifications such as AZ-700 (Azure Network Engineer Associate) or AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect Expert) preferred.
Clearance
- Active security clearance required.

- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and leading infrastructure modernization initiatives.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal government or DoD environments.
- Experience with enterprise cloud migration projects.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
