Job description
Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer to support a large-scale Department of Defense (DoD) environment in Dahlgren, VA. This role is responsible for the design, administration, and optimization of enterprise infrastructure platforms, including VMware virtualization, enterprise storage solutions, and backup/recovery systems supporting mission-critical operations.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, enterprise storage technologies such as NetApp or VAST Data, and backup solutions including Rubrik. This position offers the opportunity to support a highly visible DoD environment while working on infrastructure modernization and operational excellence initiatives. Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain VMware vSphere environments
- Administer and optimize enterprise storage platforms, including NetApp and/or VAST Data
- Manage and maintain Rubrik backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Support infrastructure modernization and IT transition initiatives
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, system designs, and standard operating procedures
- Ensure systems comply with security and accreditation requirements
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues in collaboration with support teams
- Develop system specifications, design documentation, test plans, technical reports, and related artifacts
- Support storage area network (SAN) operations, including LUN provisioning, zoning, snapshots, and virtualization technologies
- Assist with monitoring, logging, and operational visibility initiatives
Requirements
- 3+ years of Systems Engineering or Infrastructure Engineering experience
- Experience supporting VMware vSphere environments
- Experience with enterprise storage solutions such as NetApp or VAST Data
- Experience administering backup and disaster recovery platforms, preferably Rubrik
- Understanding of SAN technologies, storage provisioning, snapshots, and zoning
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Experience creating technical documentation and system design artifacts
- Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity requirements, including STIGs and SCAP
- CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification
- Active Top Secret security clearance
- U.S. Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Splunk administration, monitoring, or log analysis
- Scripting experience using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar tools
- Experience supporting DoD enterprise infrastructure environments
