Summary: The Senior Test Engineer is a technical leader within Quality Engineering, responsible for driving high quality software delivery through advanced test automation, quality strategy ownership, and mentorship. This role partners closely with agile delivery teams to define, implement, and continuously improve testing approaches aligned with HES Quality Assurance standards and the Master Test Strategy.
The Senior Test Engineer operates with minimal supervision, leads complex testing initiatives, influences quality decisions across teams, and serves as a role model for modern testing practices across web, API, batch, and data-driven systems.

Acts as a senior embedded agile team member, providing technical leadership in sprint planning, execution, and delivery while ensuring sprint and release quality objectives are met.

Leads the application and evolution of HES Quality Assurance standards, including test stage ownership, entrance/exit criteria, Definition of Done, and audit readiness across teams.

Owns test strategy and approach for assigned products or initiatives, ensuring appropriate coverage across functional, integration, regression, performance, and risk-based testing.

Designs, develops, and maintains robust, scalable automated test solutions using approved frameworks and tools (e.g., PlayWright, Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, Rest Assured, Allure), supporting UI, API, batch, and data validation testing.

Leads and evolves automation strategy and regression suites, identifying opportunities to improve stability, execution speed, maintainability, and overall return on investment.

Integrates and maintains automated tests within CI/CD pipelines, supporting sprint level and release level quality gates using Azure DevOps and related tooling.

Oversees test management and governance within Azure DevOps, ensuring high quality test artifacts, traceability, execution evidence, and meaningful reporting.

Provides technical mentorship and coaching to Test Engineers and team members, promoting testing standards, best practices, and modern methodologies (e.g., BDD, TDD, exploratory testing and shift left testing).

Collaborates with product owners, architects, developers, and stakeholders to identify quality risks early, influence design for testability, and drive defect prevention.

Leads or supports complex production issue investigations, including root-cause analysis, validation of fixes, and recommendations for quality improvements.

Communicates testing status, quality risks, and recommendations clearly to leadership and stakeholders, escalating issues that may impact delivery timelines or product quality.

Contributes to process improvement initiatives, tooling enhancements, and shared utilities that strengthen Quality Engineering capabilities across teams.

Actively participates in Communities of Practice and remains current with industry trends, emerging tools, and quality engineering practices to continuously elevate HES QA maturity., To facilitate working from home, and as a requirement for this role, candidates must provide their own reliable, high speed internet access with sufficient bandwidth to execute all job functions. Company laptop will be provided - (except for temporary internship roles)
Requirements
Bachelor's degree and six plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Software Tester (CSTE), Certified Software Quality Assurance (CSQA), Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL), Certified Tester Advanced Level (CTAL), Certified Software Test Professional (CSTP)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advanced experience designing and maintaining test automation frameworks and strategies.
- Strong proficiency with PlayWright, Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, REST API testing, and/or supporting tools.
- Strong experience with Azure DevOps for test management, execution, reporting, and CI/CD integration.
- Deep understanding of Agile / SAFe methodologies and quality engineering within cross-functional teams.
- Advanced SQL and data validation skills; experience testing complex, data-driven systems.
- Experience testing web applications, APIs, microservices, batch jobs, and integrations.
- Working knowledge of Java and tes-trelated design patterns.
- Experience or demonstrated adoption of AI-assisted development and testing tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to improve automation efficiency while maintaining quality and security standards.
- Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills with the ability to influence without authority.
- Experience with Agentic AI tools.
