Job description
Plan A Technologies is looking for an experienced Frontend Engineer with strong full-stack capabilities to help build and enhance a modern web and desktop application. This role will focus primarily on frontend development, creating seamless and high-performance user experiences using technologies such as React, Svelte, TypeScript, and Tailwind.
The main focus of this position will be migrating an existing frontend proof of concept into a production-ready Svelte application, as well as building a customer portal that can operate both as a standalone web application and as an integrated experience within the desktop editor. You will also contribute to expanding the editor's user interface and tooling to support key workflows within the product's conversion pipeline.
While the role is frontend-focused, you will also have the opportunity to work across the stack, contributing to desktop application functionality through technologies like Tauri and Rust, including local services and virtual file systems. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys building polished user experiences while collaborating on deeper application architecture and system-level functionality., * Demo Migration: Efficiently translate and migrate an existing React demo into a highly performant, clean Svelte codebase.
- Dual-Target Customer Portal: Build and maintain the customer portal designed to be securely hosted in standard web browsers and embedded directly inside our editor workspace.
- Pipeline UI Tooling: Design and implement intuitive UI components and custom toolsets within the editor to support a complex backend conversion pipeline.
- Component Design: Develop modular, accessible, and reusable UI components using Tailwind CSS and TypeScript.
- Desktop App Development: Leverage Tauri to build a lightweight, fast desktop application context for our Svelte frontend.
- Inter-Process Communication (IPC): Design asynchronous bridges between the frontend webview layer and the native Rust backend.
- Virtual File Systems (VFS): Implement and manipulate virtual/in-memory file systems in Rust to manage assets safely without clunky disk operations.
- Local Services & Async Rust: Write asynchronous, non-blocking Rust code (using Tokio or similar) to manage heavy, long-running processes backgrounded within the editor.
- Frontend Testing: Author robust component, unit, and end-to-end tests using tools such as Svelte Testing Library, Vitest, or Playwright.
- Backend Testing: Write native Rust unit and integration tests using Cargo test to guarantee pipeline arithmetic and VFS predictability.
- Package Management: Optimize build speeds and dependency resolution using NPM or Bun.
Requirements
Please note: you must have at least 5+ years of experience as a Frontend Engineer and hands-on experience with Svelt and Rust to be considered for this role., * 5+ years of professional frontend engineering experience with a strong foundation in TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Proven experience with Svelte is highly preferred, alongside enough React proficiency to reverse-engineer and migrate existing code.
- Strong command of Tailwind CSS for rapid, utility-first component styling.
- Practical experience writing backend systems, local tools, or desktop services in Rust.
- Knowledge of Tauri (or Electron architecture with a strong desire to master Tauri).
- Rust Ecosystem: Familiarity with Cargo for dependency management and custom build profiles.
- Clear understanding of Asynchronous processing, IPC protocols, and Virtual File Systems.
- Version control mastery using GitHub.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Outstanding communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Initiative and drive to do great things.
