Job description

We are seeking a Software & Controls Engineer II to design, develop, maintain, and improve software and control systems that support automated manufacturing and testing operations. This role is responsible for supporting electro-mechanical production equipment through software development, PLC programming, troubleshooting, system documentation, and equipment modernization initiatives.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Maintenance, Manufacturing, and Quality to improve equipment performance, resolve technical issues, and enhance production reliability.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain software and control systems for automated manufacturing and test equipment.

Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs, HMI/operator interfaces, instrumentation, sensors, actuators, and industrial communication networks.

Investigate equipment failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability and uptime.

Partner with Maintenance and Engineering teams to diagnose and resolve automation, controls, and electrical system issues.

Create and maintain technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, control schematics, I/O mappings, signal flow documentation, and system configurations.

Support equipment upgrades and modernization projects, including hardware replacement, software migration, validation testing, commissioning, and production deployment.

Assist with the integration of new equipment, control technologies, and automation solutions.

Ensure compliance with organizational engineering standards, safety requirements, and change management processes.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on manufacturing efficiency, quality, and equipment performance.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

1-2 years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, PLC programming, or manufacturing equipment support.

1-2 years of experience troubleshooting electrical controls, instrumentation, sensors, actuators, motor controls, and electro-mechanical systems.

Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, I/O lists, and mechanical drawings.

Experience developing, modifying, testing, or debugging software used for automated equipment or manufacturing systems.

Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, software revisions, configuration management records, and engineering change documentation.

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with PLC programming platforms such as:

Siemens TIA Portal

Allen-Bradley RSLogix / Studio 5000

GE Fanuc LogicMaster

Similar industrial automation platforms

Experience developing applications using National Instruments LabVIEW.

Knowledge of industrial control panels, field devices, instrumentation, industrial wiring, and equipment communications.

Experience with legacy system modernization, reverse engineering controls systems, I/O mapping, signal tracing, and as-built documentation development.

Familiarity with manufacturing equipment upgrades, hardware obsolescence planning, software migration projects, and system commissioning.

Experience with manufacturing data systems, relational databases, document control processes, and formal change management methodologies.

Understanding of industrial networking, data acquisition systems, and manufacturing automation best practices.
