Job description
JEGS is looking for a hands-on, all-around IT generalist to serve as the backbone of our internal systems, network, and infrastructure. This role consolidates system administration, network engineering, and infrastructure support into a single specialist position - ideal for someone who wants broad ownership across servers, networking, security, and business-critical systems rather than a narrow slice of any one discipline. You will be the primary owner of our Windows Server environment, network infrastructure, endpoint support, backup/disaster recovery, and day-to-day security operations, while also providing secondary support on our IBMi (AS/400) environment and cloud-connected systems (Azure SQL, Snowflake). You'll work closely with the Director of IT and cross-functional teams to keep our systems secure, available, and performing at the level our business demands. Systems Administration
- Install, configure, patch, and upgrade Windows Server operating systems, physical/virtual hosts, and core infrastructure services.
- Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure secure and efficient operations.
- Administer Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online, Teams, and related productivity and collaboration platforms.
- Monitor system performance and capacity, and proactively troubleshoot server, storage, and virtualization issues.
- Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures across servers, NAS/SAN, and cloud storage targets.
- Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and technical resolutions in support of internal policy and compliance.
Network Engineering
- Design, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN, wireless, VPN, firewall, and switching infrastructure across on-site and hybrid locations.
- Manage core network services including DNS, DHCP, and network access control.
- Support and help mature edge security tooling (e.g., Cloudflare WAF, rate limiting, bot mitigation) in coordination with the Director of IT.
- Monitor network health, throughput, and uptime; respond to and resolve outages and degraded performance.
- Maintain network diagrams and documentation, and support disaster recovery and failover planning.
Security & Compliance
- Implement and audit security controls across endpoints, servers, and network infrastructure, including antivirus/anti-malware, spam filtering, and patch management.
- Perform routine security reviews, respond to incidents, and support remediation efforts.
- Ensure data integrity through regular backup verification and tested recovery procedures.
- Support access governance - onboarding, offboarding, and periodic access reviews across systems.
Enterprise Systems & Data Support (IBM i / Cloud)
- Provide day-to-day operational support for our IBM i (AS/400) environment, including job monitoring, backups, and basic troubleshooting alongside outside hardware/licensing partners.
- Support connectivity and data integration between IBM i, ERP, ecommerce, and warehouse systems (file feeds in CSV, XML, JSON).
- Provide basic DBA support and troubleshooting for Azure SQL and/or Snowflake environments - monitoring availability, performance, and access.
- Partner with the applications team on integration and automation needs (e.g., Power Automate, PowerApps) where infrastructure or connectivity is involved.
End-User & Desktop Support
- Provide tiered technical support to associates, resolving hardware, software, and connectivity issues with minimal downtime.
- Support desktop/laptop hardware, peripherals, and both Windows and Mac environments.
- Train and onboard new personnel on desktop applications and IT procedures.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to maintain system uptime and business continuity outside business hours.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in system administration, network engineering, or a comparable hands-on infrastructure role.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server environments - installation, configuration, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
- Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, and switching; Cisco experience a plus.
- Experience with backup and disaster recovery tooling and practices (e.g., Backup Exec, NAS/SAN, cloud backup).
- Exposure to IBM i / AS/400 environments is a strong plus, but not required - willingness to learn a homebrewed ERP environment is essential.
- Working familiarity with SQL and relational databases (Azure SQL, Snowflake, or similar) is a plus.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and comfort working under deadlines in a fast-paced, business-critical environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with comfort interacting with personnel at all levels of the organization.
- Good organizational and time management skills; detail-oriented and self-directed.
- Experience writing and maintaining technical documentation and procedures.
- Microsoft and/or networking certifications (e.g., MCSA, CCNA, Security+) are a plus but not required.
