The Information Systems Security Engineer analyzes user needs, policies, regulations, and resource demands to define system-wide security requirements and ensures they are integrated into architectures, acquisitions, and daily operations. This position applies security engineering principles to both common user systems and specialized government and commercial systems, helping to safeguard information, systems, and processes in alignment with Army and Department of Defense (DoD) standards., * Establish and satisfy complex, system-wide information security requirements based on analysis of user needs, policies, regulatory guidance, and resource demands.

  • Support customers in the development, documentation, and implementation of security-related doctrine, policies, and procedures.
  • Apply security engineering principles and practices to government and commercial common user systems, as well as to dedicated special-purpose systems requiring specialized security features and procedures.
  • Ensure all acquisitions, procurements, and outsourcing efforts appropriately address information security requirements consistent with Army and DoD standards.
  • Evaluate security improvement actions, ensure they are properly validated, and oversee their implementation as required.
  • Assess the effectiveness of procurement functions in addressing information security requirements and supply chain risks, and recommend improvements to procurement processes.
  • Identify and propose alternative information security strategies to achieve defined security objectives and risk tolerances.
  • Identify IT security program implications of new technologies, technology upgrades, and emerging capabilities, and advise stakeholders accordingly.
  • Interpret and recommend security requirements relative to the capabilities and limitations of new information technologies.
  • Analyze patterns of noncompliance to determine their impact on risk levels and the overall effectiveness of the enterprise security posture.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of cybersecurity safeguards to ensure they provide the intended level of protection and coverage.
  • Participate in the Risk Governance process to address security risks, recommend mitigations, and provide input on other technical risks affecting systems and programs.
  • Promote awareness of security issues among leadership and stakeholders and ensure sound security principles are implemented in projects and operations.
  • Provide input to Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities and related documentation, including system life-cycle support plans, concepts of operations, operational procedures, and maintenance training materials.
  • Assist with the selection and tailoring of cost-effective security controls to mitigate risk and protect information, systems, and processes.
  • Gather information from key stakeholders to understand and tailor system security requirements to mission and operational needs.
  • Set up, document, and manage security protocols, policies, and procedures in alignment with DoD and Army guidance.
  • Monitor security processes and controls, identify weaknesses, and implement or recommend mitigation actions.
  • Complete required DoD information assurance awareness training prior to network access and participate in annual refresher training, and ensure adherence to applicable training and certification requirements., This position is based on-site at a secure military installation in Warren, Michigan, within the Detroit Arsenal. The Information Systems Security Engineer works embedded with government stakeholders and collaborates closely with internal teammates in a highly mission-focused environment. The role offers the opportunity to work directly on cutting-edge technology that supports U.S. Army missions and capabilities. Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in information systems security engineering, cybersecurity, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in system security, including defining and implementing system-wide security requirements.
  • Proficiency with security protocols, security administration, and the configuration and management of security controls.
  • Experience gathering information from key stakeholders to understand and tailor system security requirements to operational needs.
  • Ability to set up and manage security protocols, policies, and procedures for complex systems and environments.
  • Experience monitoring security processes, identifying issues, and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to apply security engineering principles to both common user and specialized systems in government and commercial environments.
  • Capability to evaluate and improve procurement and acquisition processes to address information security and supply chain risks.
  • Experience supporting Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes and contributing to related documentation such as system life-cycle support plans and concepts of operations.
  • Ability to interpret patterns of noncompliance, assess their impact on risk, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Strong understanding of Army and DoD information security requirements, policies, and standards.
  • Ability to identify IT security program implications of new technologies and technology upgrades.
  • Secret security clearance eligibility and ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
  • Compliance with DoD and Army training requirements in DODD 8570.01, DOD 8570.01-M, and AR 25-2 within 6 months of employment.
  • Completion of the baseline certification stipulated in DOD 8570.01-M by contract award, such as Security+ or Governance, Risk and Compliance Certification (GSRC).
  • Completion of required DoD information assurance awareness training prior to network access and annually thereafter.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Certifications such as CASP+, Security+, or CISSP, with CASP+ noted as particularly valuable for this position.
  • Experience working with or supporting Army or DoD environments and understanding of their security governance processes.
  • Strong communication skills to promote security awareness and effectively engage with management and technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to participate in risk governance forums and clearly articulate security risks, mitigations, and technical considerations.
  • Experience selecting and tailoring cost-effective security controls to protect information, systems, and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and recommend security requirements for emerging and evolving information technologies.

Benefits & conditions

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sterling Heights, MI. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $57.69 - $86.54/hr.
