Job description

We are seeking a licensed (or licensing-ready) Design Architect to lead the planning, design, and execution of capital construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects across a healthcare system. This role manages projects from concept through completion, balancing operational needs, budgets, schedules, and regulatory requirements.

The Design Architect will serve as both a hands-on designer and an owner's representative, coordinating with internal engineering teams, Design Project Managers, and external architectural firms. Responsibilities include ensuring adherence to organizational design standards, overseeing project delivery, and ultimately reviewing and stamping architectural documents.

Projects primarily consist of renovations to existing healthcare facilities, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, ambulatory centers, oncology departments, laboratories, behavioral health facilities, administrative spaces, and infrastructure improvements such as roofing and window replacement. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural design, planning, and execution of healthcare construction and renovation projects.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, approvals, and overall financial performance.
  • Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee construction documents, specifications, bidding, contract administration, and project closeout.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, building codes, permitting requirements, and organizational design standards.
  • Partner with senior engineering staff and Design PMs to support project delivery and quality outcomes.
  • Review bids, recommend contractor selections, and maintain contract and financial controls.
  • Lead stakeholder meetings, presentations, and project communications.
  • Support space planning, department relocations, and move management initiatives.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and drive continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related design/construction field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in architectural design, construction engineering, or construction project management.
  • Experience managing projects from planning and design through construction and closeout.
  • Strong knowledge of construction documents, specifications, contract administration, and regulatory compliance.
  • Minimum 1 year of CADD experience.
  • Professional Architect licensure required, or candidates who have completed licensing requirements and are eligible to sit for the exam.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare, hospital, or medical facility design and construction experience.
  • Experience with capital projects, renovations, space planning, and department relocations.
  • Knowledge of healthcare facility standards, commissioning, permitting, and regulatory approval processes.
  • Professional certifications such as Architect, NCARB, PE, or PMP.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of architectural design, construction methods, project delivery, and construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes and regulations.
  • Experience managing budgets, schedules, consultants, and contracts.
  • Proficiency in CADD, project management software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
